2nd Trimester

Flying Later in Pregnancy.

DH and I are taking a trip when I'll be around 28-29 weeks, as long as everything stays happy and healthy with baby.  I'm already a frequent flier so I've got our airport logistics and essentials down.

For those who have traveled before later in pregnancy is there anything I should be bringing with me?  I was going to get a letter from my OB saying everything is safe to travel just in case airlines ask.  We booked a non-stop flight so we don't have to deal with transfers.  Anything else I should consider?

Re: Flying Later in Pregnancy.

  • Get an aisle seat so you can get up and walk around often. Drink plenty of water. Some people recommend compression socks, but I don't know anything about them.

  • Aisle seat and lots of water. I usually take a sudafed when flying to help my ears equalize (they are really bad), so I did some research when flying two weeks ago and found out that's ok when pg too.

  • Aisle seat and lots of water! I wore compression socks and they really helped.

My doctor also recommended that I take a printout of my records. This way if I had to go to the ER for some reason they would have information on me.

When I was pregnant with my first we were living in Europe and we would fly all over there, as well back and forth between there and the US and taking long trips like to South Africa. Towards the end I always carried a note from my doc saying I was clear to fly. I believe I was flying till about 33 weeks. Agreed about an aisle seat. Also if you are on a long flight and concerned about circulation (i was) ask your doc about heparin shots.
  • I am a flight attendant and I am going to be flying 'working' until I am 36 weeks pregnant. The only advice That I must stress is hydrate hydrate hydrate! I drink approx 1-2 litres per flight! Also get up every hour or so just to walk around fir circulation. I wouldnt worry much about compression stockings as I fly 3-4 times a week and have never used them!

I flew at 34 weeks pregnant.  My grandma has passed away and I went home for her funeral.
None related (as far as my doctor was concerned) My dd3 was born at 36 weeks.
We were living in southern Florida at the time, but my hometown was in Alberta, Canada.
  • Like others said, water, water, and more water. Walk around... if you are flying with someone else, try booking an aisle seat, and window seat... chances are others will not want to sit between two people. So you might be lucky to have a whole row! Between you both.
When I flew down to mexico from Canada that helped, I was also 28 weeks along, I also had compression socks. I tried it and it does make a difference. Especially if you can't get up too often. And stuck on a long flight.
I had a dr's note to avoid the scans at the airport, and clearing me to fly.
    Have fun!

I flew at 31 weeks. I think the only limitation was that they wouldn't let me sit in the exit row.

I agree with PP's suggestion to drink lots of water.
