Hi there. Figured I'd introduce myself. My husband and I tied the knot May 31st of this year. We have full custody of his 7 year old son from his first marriage. I'm a nurse, DH works in software design. I've never been preggo but I'm excited about the possibility. I just had my IUD out on 7/10 and we are currently NTNP and if by Oct we haven't had any luck then we will be officially TTC. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 7 years ago so I'm unsure exactly what to expect going forward. Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Hi and welcome. I am curious: why did you have an IUD when you haven't had children already? I thought they usually recommend those only if you have already done the kid thing.

Nurse perspective: the tides are a changin' on this philosophy. Now many practitioners are seeing no problem with inserting an IUD in a woman without risk factors when they don't have kids. Personally, I wouldn't do it, but I do get why people have it. It's now up to each practitioner.

ETA: @SpartanChick88‌ - you are right. The rate of PID is higher with an IUD and so many women who haven't had kids were not recommended to have an IUD in the event they got an infection and were rendered infertile.

Thanks to everyone for the welcomes! And I've had 3 different GYNs over the past 5 years and I had asked the first 2 before finally having the mirena placed with the 3rd, none of the GYNs were concerned about it at all. Honestly besides a little bit of cramping during the procedure and for the rest of the day it was the best birth control (or as my 7 year old SS describes birth control - baby proofing) I've ever used. I didn't have to try to remember to take a pill, my being overweight didn't affect it like it would have if I used the patch, and it controlled my PCOS symptoms the best of any of my BCP.
