I just needed to share. Our dear, sweet boy was not eating, and we took him to the best veterinary hospital in New England. He was diagnosed with gastric carcinoma, a particulary nasty form of stomach cancer. He would not have recovered from an operation, and the type he had does not respond to meds. We had to let him go on Monday. We are heartbroken. I feel especially bad because DH has had Ash since he was 11 weeks old, and I feel like he is comforting me, when I should be supporting him too. Everyone tells me to not get too upset for the baby, and that just makes it worse. I know this is so hard for him. Ash was only 6 years old. (He's a Great Dane) Our family feels incomplete, and I'm so sad the baby will not get to grow up and play with Ash. He was definitely our most child friendly dog. Here is a picture of him and DH from before he got sick.

I am so sorry! We just had to put my beautiful boy down approx. 2 months ago and it still pains me. You guys are in my thoughts and prayers. I, too, had to make the decision to let him go and be there for him as he has always been for me. He was 9 and I had him since he was 6 months. It saddens me that the girls will not get to know what a wonderful soul he was. The vet told me that he should not have been up and loving on me as he was....that is just how he always was---putting me first.
I am truly sorry for your loss
