Foul smelling urine

So Hannah had the foulest smelling urine ever this morning. Like we swore she had a poop but there was nothing there. Also she has been peeing more lately and it seems like it's been darker too. So I called Telehealth and they suggested seeing a doctor in the next 24 hours. So hubby is taking her after he is done work at 5 to the afterhours clinic tonight. I work 1-9 tonight so I'm disappointed that I can't be there.

It seems like the nurse is suspecting an infection of some kind. Part of me feels like it's my fault. That maybe I didn't clean her properly after a dirty diaper or something like that. Anybody have UTI or a kidney type infection in their LO's? What did they do for it?

Oh not sure if it's related or not but her breath reeks too!!

Ds had really stinky breath too. I asked about it at his 2 yr old check up. The dr said it's probably the tongue. It actually isn't as bad now that he's nearing 3. Maybe they aren't related but who knows.

Hopefully the dr will be able to fix the issue.

It sounds like a uti. Has she been drinking less? I would encourage her to drink lots of water to try and flush things out, and going to the ped is a very good call! Don't be hard on yourself! It happens sometimes!

DS's breath STUNK one week when he was sick. Maybe the ear infection? Like knocked me down it surprised me so much. After his antibiotics it went away. I could see that if something was making one body fluid smell, it could affect another. Don't be hard on yourself - all kinds of crazy stuff happens to these kids! I second kmc & say drink drink drink too. Hopefully whatever it is can be fixed easily!

Poor H! Some people are just really prone to UTIs. Hope it clears up soon. And if they put her on antibiotics, don't forget a probiotic or yogurt. Last thing she needs is a YI too!

My kiddos have kidney reflux & frequently get UTIs. I am sure it is nothing you did so no mommy guilt! If it is a UTI they will give her antibiotics, getting an uncontaminated urine sample is difficult so be prepared that they may catheterize her to get a sample. Don't want to scare you just letting you know our experience. Hope LO is better in no time!

No clue about the pee but I would suspect UTI since I had them all the time as a kid. Breath stinking is pretty normal for DS even though he brushes his teeth with that kid toothpaste.

I get UTIs on occasion. My pee smells "barnyard-y" for lack of a better description. Not sure about bad breath. Good news is that uti is a pretty easy fix with some antibiotics.

Thanks for the reassurance ladies. I know I'm prone to them as well, maybe Hannah is like me.

Just talked to hubby, he's sitting waiting for Hannah to pee in a bag they glued to her lol, don't envy that wait.

K had a few UTIs this past winter. It was exactly like what you are describing. We would be sure she had pooped but it was all pee. She just went on antibiotics. If it is an infection, it is NOT your fault!
