Another travel post! Need suggestions

We had originally planned to go to England next March over MH's spring break, but given our vacation time and the logistics of going with a toddler, we decided we want to do something more low key.

We'd love to go somewhere within a 5 or 6 hour driving radius of Chicago that would be great for us and N.  Any suggestions?

Also, we'd consider flying somewhere if it was a really awesome family trip idea so feel free to suggest other places.  Not Disney though.

  • Wisconsin Dells? I've never been but DH went when he was a kid. Lots of water parks.

It's a bit odd but when we road tripped it through South Dakota/Mt. Rushmore I was shocked by how mush there was to do out there. All kinds of museums and parks. You could easily spend a week out there.

  • I'd go to England. I'm no help. What do you like outdoorsy stuff, beaches, mountains? And March for sure?

England would have been ideal but we just don't have the vacation time right now for a big trip like that.  March for sure because it's during MH's spring break and we have no say in the timing.

We like outdoorsy things but also relaxing things.  We love the beach but do that every summer with the extended family.  We also like cities.

We had a great time in Costa Rica! It's not a long flight and the time zone change wasn't too jarring for her sleep patterns. Great mix of beach/rainforest/wildlife. Even if you've been, there's a lot more to see.
This is intriguing.... what kind of activities were best with a LO?  I've always wanted to go to Costa Rica!
