Cheater freezer meals...I can't be the only one!

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy cooking. I'm just not much on cooking something and then freezing it.

Anyways, my version of freezer meals was just buying them. Nice little skillet meals for 2 people that cook up in less than 15 minutes and some thin crust pizzas.

Also got a great deal because my local store was going out of stock of Barefoot Contessa meals (originally $8 down to $3.89). Could I even make anything for that price?

When we're tired I imagine eating these, delivery, or picking something from my garden. I do feel a little guilty when I see people sharing recipes and taking time to do something homemade.

  • I also love to cook, but I doubt I will do freezer meals. Our freezer just doesn't have that much room!

  • PF Changs meals for two will be our staples! I am not ashamed to admit that I HATE cooking. Maybe I'll throw together a pasta dish at some point but that will be about it. Also agree that my freezer is tiny. My husband has brought up buying an extra one because we constantly run out of space and it's just the two of us right now.

  • I plan on cheating.  Central Market has ready made casseroles and dinners for two.  I will be stocking up on these and just pulling them out as needed and microwaving them.  I think whole foods makes these two, but its not as convenient to me.  Plus they have healthy options on their dinners for two.

  • I've been considering cheating too. I plan to do some homemade stuff, really simple like sloppy joe meat and chili soup, but most other things I don't enjoy after they've been frozen. Just don't seem as good as fresh made!

So I am also thinking of buying similar stuff to make it easy/convenient. Should probably start buying a couple a week before baby comes...

I had aspirations of making some freezer meals, but it hasn't happened yet and probably won't. I did pick up a few pre-made things in the store. I guess I did make up some frozen ham and cheese sandwiches that we will warm up, but that's all I've done. Eh, I'm not worried. Our church will provide some meals for a week or so and then my mom will be here. We'll survive! :)

  • Ditto, I love cooking, but have never done so in bulk for the freezer and don't feel the need to. I'll be eating lots of Amy's frozen meals in the weeks to come.

  • I did homemade freezer meals, but I did add some store-bought ones to our stash as well.

We also plan on getting take out more than normal (pizza, take-out pasta dinners, subs).

Will also be using paper plates!!  I never thought about this until someone here brought it up.  We usually only use paper for birthday parties.  Anything to cut down on work around the house.

  • We have a tiny freezer so I'll only do a couple of freezer meals
easy things like lasagna, chicken fingers and fries. I also like to have a lot of peanut butter on hand for when I need to eat right away and can't wait to cook something.

I can't believe I never thought of paper plates. I could kiss the person that mentioned that.

Costco is a lifesaver for us! In the first few weeks we eat a lot of ready made stuff from there and takeout. Plus DH had a weird aversion to frozen meals (I think his dad made him eat too much frozen crap when he was a kid). And we do paper plates too!

  • Cheating? My plan is to order or have my husband pick up every meal! I'm too tired now to cook I can't imagine I'll feel up to it after I have a baby. But I also hate cooking in general and we have endless delivery options here.
  • I wish I could do this! Im gluten intolerant and most gluten free ones are pretty gross. We did get some frozen gluten free burritos on clearance so I have those for lunches. Im hoping people will bring us food or we will do a lot of takeout!
  • I ditto the good idea on the paper plates...didn't really think of it!

We are walking distance (less than 1/10 of a mile) from Panda Express, Subway, Red Mango Frozen Yogurt and Indian food. Unfortunately the Indian and Chinese have given me heartburn so I'm weary to eat it even after baby comes. Hoping some home options are easier, cheaper, and healthier.

  • My MIL has already prepared 3 shelves of frozen meals for us but we will be buying some ready ones from TJs for sure too. The deal with my husband is that he will cook and take care of 2 older ones while I will be taking care of the baby once she arrives. He's a good cook (better than me) but for him cooking is art so it takes ages for him to prepare something so frozen meals are a must at least as an ingredient.
  • I've done a little bit of everything. I've made some freezer meals, bought some pizza/lasagnas, having both moms come and do a little cooking or dropping of meals, and take out is definitely in our future.
I love to cook and don't want to get too far out of habit of not cooking. Plus, I want to be able to control the amount of additives in our meals. I was overweight before BFP so the more that I can help facilitate moving my weight back in the right direction, the better.

  • Costco is my love! I have stocked up on paper goods because hubby and I both despise doing dishes so that is a huge life saver for us. Frozen taquitos, pizzas, and chicken nuggets for the kids have already been in our rotation this last month of pregnancy. I also stocked up on peanut butter, jelly and bread, applesauce, a giant tub of hummus, etc. I'm so thankful and looking forward to meals from my church and for my mom taking my other 2 kiddos for the first week just so I don't have to worry about feeding them and hubby and myself and be a boob milk machine too. I'm totally into cheating!

My friend told me the freezer ones at trader joes are good so I've got it on my list to stop there ASAP and pick up as many as will fit in my freezer - which unfortunately will probably be only 3-4.

  • I have homemade freezer meals and I have frozen meals from the store in my freezer. I have a deep freeze in my garage so it helps with storage issues.

  • I have some store bought frozen stuff and some homemade. I only know how to make a few things so we are going to need variety!
  • I worry about a lot of the store bought freezer meals having MSG and a lot of sodium.  Some are good though and we have definitely bought them.

Costco always has a great selection of meals!
