NBR: Reusable Sandwich Bags

Wonderig if any of you use reusable sandwich / snack bags and if so, if you'd recommend the kind you use. I use a bag each morning to contain my breakfast on the way to work and I'd like to get a few reusable ones so I'm not throwing away so many. I've found a few on Amazon (Bumkins and Itzy Ritzy brand) but would love some real input. Thanks!

Re: NBR: Reusable Sandwich Bags

  • I use reusable snack bags for my DS, I ordered them off hyena cart from a WAHM. Super cheap and have held up great. The main con is they don't keep things as fresh as plastic zip locks, because a zipper just isn't as air tight. They work for keeping things for a couple hours (and my 2 year old could care less if his crackers are slightly stale usually), but I have never used them for a sandwich, so I can't speak for if that would stay fresh enough for my liking to pack a lunch in the morning for example. Probably depends on how dry of a climate you are in as well. I do love how handy they are though for kids snacks, and I just throw them in the wash when they need cleaning.

  • we have a bunch of snack taxi ones, since they sell them at the grocery store here.  they are really easy to clean, the only downside i think is that they are sort of expensive... 6-8 bucks for a smaller one, more like 12-13 for a sandwich sized.

i did just buy a bunch at ikea that are bigger and only 3 dollars each.  i don't like them as much, but they were three dollars.

  • For sandwiches, I've started used the Kids Konserve Food Kozies. They're super easy to wash and when you're done with your sandwich you don't have a large container to bring home. But unlike in the picture below I wouldn't use them for "wet" snacks since they just wrap around the food and velcro shut.

I've thought about buying some snack bags for fruit/chips but now I usually use small plastic containers since they don't leak all that much and keep chips from getting crushed.

  • Monkey Foot Designs is a WAHM and I've been using her bags for years. Her bags even went up into the space shuttle!

If you like her FB page you can usually find a sale. She also has a seconds section on her website and I can never figure out what is wrong with them.

I have 2 zipper bags from SweetJaysPlace on etsy. I like them, but as someone else mentioned, they aren't air-tight. If I put a sandwich in the AM it's OK at lunch if I leave it in my bag. If it goes in the fridge the edges of the bread get all stale by lunchtime.

They work great for pretzels, goldfish etc that aren't as sensitive as soft bread, I still use them all the time for sandwiches, just knowing their limitation. I turn them inside out to machine wash, and they've held up well

  • Thanks for the suggestions! I hadn't thought of the freshness factor since I usually eat things same day, but I'm glad it was brought up. :-)
