AW: RE Visit Surprise

Hi ladies,
I just wanted to update you no what's been happening after my visit 2 weeks ago to the new RE and get your thoughts on something.
So, after my visit, I started taking Femara 5mg d3-7, Bravelle and Menopur d7-now in an attempt to grow one follicle, since I never respond to oral meds and the one time I did, it was to Femara on day 27.
Went in today for a follie scan and hard to believe, but I had not one but eight follicles! Holy crap...I had no idea I could grow that many given that I never respond to anything!
Anyways, so basically, my RE said that it seems like I'm all or nothing, either no follicles (with the femara) or too many (with injectables). He gave me two options:
1) Scrap this cycle and try again with Femara  or
2) Convert this cycle to an IVF cycle since I have so many follicles and do egg retrieval on Sunday...I didn't even know you could do that.
So now, I went from being doubtful about growing even one follicle, to being absolutely terrified of the egg retrieval and transfer.
Anyone had to do this? Where an injects cycle turned into an IVF cycle? What would you ladies do?

    So, DH and I just had a huge fight on the phone about this (okay...I'll admit here but not to him that the 'fight' was really me being super grumpy at him since the stims have made me kind of bitchy and short tempered the last couple days)
    Anyways, he says that he doesn't like that it's a surprise and came up all the sudden, and made me feel like I knew that this was how it was going to turn out but kept him in the dark...so he doesn't really have an opinion right now aside from saying that it's really expensive and he's surprised :-/

    It's a big decision to make and it doesn't sound like you have a lot of time to make it. If the follies are good size and most of them are likely mature, it's worth considering IVF. If he thinks only 2-3 may be mature by Sunday, then it may not be worth it.

    Yeah, we have talked about it, but that discussion always went to 'well...we'll talk about it later when I don't respond to injects'. As for being on the same page, I see where DH is coming from, since it's a huge surprise to me too, but I just wish he would tell me what his opinion on it is :-/

    Repeat c-scar surgery June 2015
    2nd and last IVF cycle August 2015, stimmed for 12 days, 2 egg retrieved, both mature and both fertilized.  Transferred both 8-cell embryos on Day 3, beta 9/5/15 = BFFN

    You've invested a lot in this cycle already, so it is a big change of plans at what feels like the last second. Take what time you can and only go forward with the decision that you and YH *both* feel comfortable with. GL!!!

    Not a dumb question at all. Theoretically, I can do IUI, but that could result in 8 embryos...which I'm not ready to be octomom quite yet. They're all within 'ovulation size", between 18-22mm...

    Holy Follies, Batman! Girl, I say if you can afford IVF, do it! Those follies are plump and ready to go ;) Good luck with whatever you and DH decide :) Big hugs to you!!!

    I just wanted to say GL!

    Maybe get an night of a good nights sleep and then come back to talk about it.  He sounds a lot of like my H, who just needs time.

    Wow that's great that you have follies! I don't have any advice. I hope you and YH can sit down and come to an agreement you both feel comfortable with. Good luck!

    IVF is a big emotional and financial committment.  Before converting to IVF, I would ask your RE what he would change or do different if you had planned to have an IVF cycle from the start.  The meds dosage may be different and you may get more follicles.  If he would change the dosage signficantly, it may be worth waiting to do IVF for a planned IVF cycle in order to get the best response for the money you are spending.

    Thanks for all the support ladies!
    DH and I talked some more last night and we both did complete 180...he was all for IVF and I was terrified! haha Is it crazy that I'm really scared of egg retrieval? Google has definitely not been my friend in the last 24h finding out details about this.
    But basically, both my RE and DH said that Femara does nothing, and the lowest dose of injects gives me 8 follicles, so IVF may be my best choice since I can't seem to have an in-between.

    As far as the $$ is concerned, DH is trying to move around some of our cash so that we can afford it, but my parents offered to lend us some money for this...which I'm really not sure I'm comfortable taking. I hate borrowing money from them, especially when I know they're trying to save up for retirement.
    Anyways, I have an appointment tomorrow to look at the follies again and decide if I were to do IVF if I would have egg retrieval Sunday or Monday. Hoping if I do this, it'll be Sunday so I don't have to take an extra day off work and can be a slug at home...

    I'm sorry you're in an all or nothing situation, but it's definitely something that happens!

    It looks like you've decided to move forward with IVF! Some things I would ask if it were me; "are all the follies in the same size range?" If not, it's likely some aren't mature- and it's an expensive procedure if you're looking at <5 eggs. Also, "will your transfer be fresh, or frozen?" A lot of clinics push to frozen in a situation like this because there are a lot of required tests for IVF that may not have been completed (tests that ensure the safety of embryos in the lab). Also, "how does your estrogen and p4 line up to that of someone prepping for a transfer?"

    Update:
    Thank you so much for all the advice and support ladies! So, I went back to the RE today and he said that based on my follicles and blood work, it's as if I had planned to do IVF from the get go. Somehow had 12 follies between 18-24mm (hence me feeling like a beached whale these past few days), so he said we can do egg retrieval on Monday.
    I think we're going to go through with the IVF since we've already put so much time/effort/money into it and we're pretty sure there can't be a happy medium between oral meds and no follicles and injects and 12 follicles. We're trying to re-organize some of our money right now so that we don't have to borrow from my parents so that's still something we have to figure out.
    So now I just have to get over how terrified I am of the egg retrieval on Monday. I know I shouldn't use google as a reliable resource, but it has me really scared.

    2/6/15: Frozen Embryo Transfer --> BFP --> MC at 5w4d
    3/20/16: PGS-tested Frozen Embryo Transfer --> BFP, Living Child born 12/1/15

    So glad it's working out!! What part of the ER is worrying you? My fresh cycle was awhile ago but I can probably ease your mind if you have specific questions :)

    I'm mostly scared of not so much the ER itself, but afterwards. I keep reading horrible things about how people can't walk or stand or lie down because they're in so much pain, how it hurts so badly to pee and how they bloat up like a balloon to the point where it's unbearable :-/ That terrifies me...

    I think people who have those reactions were probably over stimmed and had a 20+ eggs or something. I had 12 retrieved and I probably could have gone to work later that day. I didn't because I was quite tired from the meds. Your first pee is awkward but no biggie. They will make you pee before you leave the hospital. You can take colace if you're worried about #2 :)
