Comment from the park

This was a new one.

From older lady at splash park: "She's so white.  How? Do you ever take her outside?"

Me: "...uhh, we always use sunblock."

Her: "oh, that makes sense then."

  • I mean, I'm sure the lady today just said it without thinking trying to make conversation, but it was just odd- "how?" genetics. it's not like I'm sporting a dark tan and DD is pasty. we're both pasty!.

but the fact that other people here have had similar things happen wtf do people need to comment on skin color?
  • Elijah has a tan despite my best efforts. I rub sunscreen on that kid hourly and try to keep him covered, but he's tan just like me.
  • I've had multiple (older, crazy) ladies insist to me that C can not be "just white". Cause she has a darkish complexion. As do MH and I. And I really have no idea what to even say besides that I am fairly certain of my own kids ethnicity. Crazy ladies.

2 of my nieces are black/white mixed. One is whiter than me and one is just as black as her daddy was. They had no issue understanding that "M1 looks like Mommy, M2 looks like Daddy." Other people, however, still interrogate my sister about how many baby daddys she has.
