Anyone Cloth Diaper?

Have a question for the experienced cloth diaper mamas.  So, i CD my son and only used pockets.  I'm all about the easiest diapers and i have no interest in prefolds.  With that said, i hear AIO's are really easy too.  I'd be interested in trying them.  I do love my pockets but AIO look even easier? No stuffing or prep, correct?  So what are the downfalls to the AIOs? Which do you prefer? Also, any brand that you would recommend for AIOs? Thanks!

I think the downfall with AIOs is that they take longer to dry and you can't customize the absorbency as easily (you could add some boosters on top, but they would have to be the right material). Also, I like to air dry my covers to keep the PUL in good condition, so putting an AIO in the dryer constantly might make the PUL break down sooner.

  • Ah, okay, that makes sense.  Also, thinking about it, doesn't seem the diaper would get as clean if the inserts arent removable?  But i could totally be wrong there.

We use pockets and aio for daycare. It's nice not to have to dump the liners out of the pockets(especially after they've been stewing for a few hours) or stuff them after every wash cycle. Biggest downfalls I've experienced are price and bulk. We use bum genius one size. If you bought sized diapers, that'd solve the bulk issue but would be more expensive. The pockets we were able to stuff with just an infant insert early on so we used them sooner than the aios.

  • erien... Did you find that the AIOs got just as clean/stink out as the pockets?  I think i'd really like to try one but i dont want to spend a lot in case i dont love them.

I haven't noticed any issue with cleanliness or stink. If you take a look at the bg aios, the liner is made up of "flaps" that fold across the inside of the diaper so they tumble freely in the wash just like pocket inserts. I dry all my diapers on low so I can't comment on whether the pul breaks down prematurely compared to my other diapers. Ive been using them less than a year which isnt very long for cd.

  • For me the downfall was dry time. I've heard gray things about the BG Elementals though and have a couple from a friend that I will try for this baby.

  • Wonder if they make any cheap china AIOs to try out like they do pockets.  I love my Charlie Bananas but my Sunbabys are a close second. Gonna look that up now.  I'd hate to spend a lot and not like them.

  • I use pockets 100% now. I have a couple AIO that I bought to try and hated them. They seemed bulkier and leaked for ds#1. Never even tried them with #2.

  • Thanks ladies!  I appreciate all the feedback.

Wow, those are cheap.  I wasnt a fan of Alva's with my son but for that price i may give them a try again.
