Pregnant after a Loss

A little nervous...

I lost my first baby at 20 weeks and I am 14 now. How do I keep from thinking about the same thing happening now? Everyone says not to think about it but I feel like that's impossible!

Re: A little nervous...

  • I lost my first son at 19 weeks and will be 15 weeks tomorrow. We discovered our loss at our a/s. When I was pg with my second son I dreaded having my a/s done. I never stopped thinking about it because I knew that loss could happen at any time. As with this pregnancy, I just keep telling myself that every pregnancy is different and every baby is different. All you can do is take care of yourself as best you can and love your baby.

((HUGS)). It will probably get more difficult as the milestone approaches (I know it does for me). Just take it day by day.

  • To be honest being pregnant this time around is the hardest thing. I am 24 weeks and my dh and I lost our first baby at 21 weeks due to bladder obstruction on the baby. I can tell yo that once I past that milestone it has been easier. Really the only thing that has kept me going through the crazies is the ladies here and being open with my DH and best friend. There are also mantras that are good to say to yourself. Example: I am pregnant until told otherwise. I also have to constantly tell myself that this is a different pregnancy. I really am sorry you had to experience such a great loss! I hope there is a rainbow at the end of this for you! Huge hugs!

It is totally normal to have the fear that the same will happen. I think with the time, and the appointments and the constant reassurance that everything seems to be ok, that fear slowly turns less and less as the excitement becomes stronger :) Don't beat yourself about it. We all have gone through it. My advice: enjoy every little milestone and try to cope as well as you can with the fears. We are here to ease your mind if you need to :)

    Hugs.

  • Loss milestones are so difficult, but I found that for the most part, the anticipation is much worse than the day of the milestone itself. Just be sure to take good care of yourself, and find something that relaxes you when you're feeling particularly anxious (walking, watching a movie, baking, puzzle, etc.) (((hugs))) to you.
