Moldy infant seat update, and a question.

I had been trying to call the service center and could never get them during business hours. My fault not theirs. I sent am email instead and they are sending me replacement harness/straps. I should have them in about 1/2 weeks.

Per my question, what is the best way to get the mold off the seat cover itself?

  • I'm glad they are sending new straps at least. It would make me a little nervous putting a newborn in a seat that I wasn't SURE all the mold was out of though :/ What does the manual say about cleaning the seat cover? I would follow those guidelines, they usually have cleaning instructions.

  • Exactly what PP said. Check your car seat manual to see how they recommend washing the cover. Glad they're sending new straps!

  • You can also use vinegar, but 1/4 cup bleach should be OK. I second checking the manual for washing instructions.

I wouldn't use any part of the seat that had mold on it at all.  I would buy a new cover. You can go to car-seat.org and check the car seat swap section as there are often people selling covers there for less than Chicco will sell them for.

  • The most of the mold is on the straps themselves. I am gonna have to clean it the best I can till we can get a new one

You could probably buy a new cover for like $30 or less.  That would be cheaper than a new seat if you are already getting the harness and stuff from Chicco.

  • The lady emailed back and said disinfection wipes and a wash on gental in cold water. This is the cover just after the wiping it down.

The little mold that was on the cover just wiped away didn't even scrub. I cut the straps off and wiped down the plastic parts.

  • I would also try to sun the cover as much as possible because the sun can help kill bacteria and other things that may be on there.

  • I would follow her instructions then, and also sun it as @third&goal mentions.
