(Sorry if this is a topic that has already been discussed. Link me?)

Ladies,

E has the big appointment next Monday, and we are doing our best to prepare ourselves. So....

What has been your experience after this particular doctor's visit?

I've Dr. Googled the subject to death, and have seen everything from moodiness, extended periods of crying from muscle aches, fevers, sleepless nights, rashes, change in appetite, etc...

How long did it last? What did you to do help relieve symptoms? How did you cope? Any advice is much appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Re: 1 Year Vaccinations

  • V has been more cranky than normal today. Ours were yesterday. No other differences that I have seen as of yet.

  • Fever and crankiness for 12 hours.

Heart break for mama for the lead test. It involved a blood draw. But you might not have that if you don't live in an old house/apt.

  • We are about 5 days past our appointment. So far she's had no symptoms or problems. I was surprised though that the Dr ordered blood work for her. We had it done and it as rough for me , she cried but not worse than getting shots.

Don't mean to hijack your post but, had anyone else had blood work ordered at the 1 year?

We had no crankiness, fever, lethargy, or any changes in behavior at all after the 12 month shots. She had three vaccinations, I'm not sure if that's standard because her pedi says she spreads them out between 12 months and 15 months. However, @Erinm278‌ , DD had her blood drawn and not from her heel or a prick, it was a full on draw from her vein and it was traumatizing. I had to hold her down and two people had to poke her and it took them forever because her veins are so tiny. She was screaming her head off and turned all red and got so sweaty. It was really awful. The shots were nothing compared to that :(

  • I was prepared for fevers, crankiness, and such, but it never happened. She barely cried for the shots. She was amazed by the pinwheel that the tech let her hold for her toe-prick for the CBC\Iron test and didn't even fuss at all.

In hindsight, she had a little "Energizer Bunny" spurt the next day with short naps and lots of active playtime, but it really was not a problem.

This was overall the easiest set of shots so far, for which I am very grateful. I was really nervous after some of the other mamas posted about their tough times. :-SS

I hope that yours go really well and little E rolls with them easy for you!!!

  • We did not have bloodwork either...I should f/u on that

He was very cranky the next day. I wasn't prepared for that because all of his shots in the past haven't affected him much.

He had blood drawn from a finger prick.
  • E had her 1 year on the 2nd with an RX for the blood work. We haven't taken her in yet - I'm really dreading it. :( She had a bruise and bump on her arm from the shots for about ten days.
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I finally put my foot down and asked to break up the shots. She had two my Dr says he likes to do together. Two nurses came in and shot each arm at the same time while I hugged her. Not too much of a reaction this time. For her six month, she had low grade fever and general crankiness for two days. We go back on Friday for her final shot.

They did the finger stick for her lead. Big mistake. She sucks on her two fingers on that hand, so I should have told them to stick another finger since she was annoyed with the bandaid and just wanted to suck her fingers after the shots.

  • DD had a finger stick to check for lead. I am lucky she has not had a reaction to any of her shots. She cried for a minute after the shots and blood test and then was fine.

Zack had his shots yesterday. So far there were no noticeable reactions to them. He got three as well (MMR, Hep A, and varicella). Doc warned he may get a fever, but he was totally fine. He also took his own bandages off today.

  • They were the worst yet for us, and we only had two, the dr offerend to save the other two for his 15 mo appt. C was feverish and miserable after, and did not sleep.

    No blood drawn at all.

  • Thank you all so much for sharing. Blood work. Oh joy! I completely forgot about that as a possibility. :(( I'm cringing just thinking about it.

  • We didn't have any reactions to the 1 year shots. They may be different vaccines in different areas, though. Our pedi group switched mmr to 1yr instead of 15 months because of the recent outbreak (and a few cases locally), and put a different vax at 15m.

Ds was very offended by the toe prick for lead and anemia, but he got over it pretty quickly.

nurse said that with the Varicella and MMR there can be a delayed reaction 5-12 days later.  About 5 days later was when pants was uber melty.

Oooh, wow. Sunday night was awful for us, I hadn't even considered the shots as a cause.
  • Gavin was totally fine afterward. I haven't gone for bloodwork yet though, and I am NOT looking forward to it!
  • We had a finger prick to test for lead/iron levels and two shots (chicken pox and MMR). Dr said to watch for reactions 5-12 days from shots... we are at 10 days and (knock on wood), everything has been fine. She did have some energizer bunny type running around the following couple of days but that almost seems to be her new normal in the evenings  :(|)

  • I'm in the minority here that A has had the worst reaction yet to her shots she got on Monday. She had 4 shots, no blood draw. She has not been napping for more than 20 minutes, waking up every 2 hours at night, fussy/clingy during the day and has a mild rash all over. I'm in hell, really hoping this clears up today.

  • P had no reaction whatsoever.
  • We didn't see any adverse side effects from the vax. He did end up with a fever and some sort of illness, but I think it was unrelated as it didn't fall in the windows of reaction mybpedi said to watch for.

  • Jade had her shots yesterday (3) and had blood drawn from her finger. She was NOT happy about it, but a few hours after, she was playing with her cousins and having a blast. No symptoms so far (crossing fingers) and she's been keeping with her regular schedule.
  • L did pretty well (we had them this past Monday). Tuesday night sucked bubbles. We went for bloodworm at the 9month appt for lead and anemia.

BUT... With the chicken pox, the nurse told us there is a chance that LO will get a mild case. And wouldn't you know, she has a few red dots on her legs and face @-) today they seem to be disappearing.
  • Tess had a bit of a welt from one of the shots but didn't have too much of a reaction.

  • He had a little fever about 10 days later but he was fine. He slept a lot more, actually.
  • We've been pretty fortunate with shots. She's usually not to bad afterwards. Just sleepy.

But the blood draw was terrible. They poked her finger and had to squeeze drops of blood out. She screamed the entire time. :( Worse than the shots.

    Good luck!
