Another newbie intro - question.

Hi ladies. I was pretty active on the Feb 15 board. This was going to be our first baby, and we were thrilled after getting that BFP in June. Unfortunately at my first appointment, when I should have been measuring at 7w0d, babe was only measuring 6w1d. Because I had been charting, I knew it meant bad news. Confirmed MMC last Thursday, 7/17.

Dr gave me Misoprostol to encourage my body to miscarry, but it hasn't really worked. I was instructed to take it orally over three days. Has anyone else had a similar situation happen? I have a follow up tomorrow morning to discuss what's next if this round of Misoprostol indeed did not work.

This. The Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss board was very helpful for me during the first couple of weeks after my loss and has a lot of advice to offer.

I'm sorry for your loss. I don't have personal experience with misoprostol as I chose to go straight to a D&C, but there are several posters around here who for whom it didn't work and ultimately had a D&C. Sometimes, a second dose can work or taking it vaginally can be more effective. Welcome to the board and I hope you find support here.

Welcome. So sorry for your loss. My doc inserted mine pretty close to my cervix and it worked, but as pp stated, it doesn't work for everyone.

As for personal experience, I took the miso vaginally and after two doses and five days of waiting, still ended up having to get a D&C. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to PM me.

I'm sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, my luck with misoprostol wasn't very successful either. You could inquire about a vaginal dosage which is what my OB said was usually more effective. What was your dosage and are you taking any other medications with it besides what your doctor gave you for pain? I found that my muscle relaxers for my back lessened my first dose and though my second dose worked for the most part another u/s showed small almost of retained tissue. A week later I was given a third dose which failed and then another week later I had an in-office D&C under a local anesthetic which I would not suggest.

If you would rather have it done at home you can try one more time or schedule a D&C with general anesthesia. Make sure you do what you are comfortable and don't let your doctor push you one way or another unless there is a medical reason for it. Sorry you have to deal with another decision, it's so difficult to decide something as awful as this.

@sosueme - I can't really speak for the oral dosage as all three of mine were vaginal, but it sounds like the dosage you were given should have worked to at least some degree. I had 800 mg, 800mg, and then 1200 mg (3 doses of 400 mg every 4 hours). All my dosages were at least 48 hours a part as I kept having to go back. They told me there is nothing wrong with taking it multiple times and that some people have to do it twice. Hopefully your OB and you can find a solution at your appointment that will work for you.
