What about a pedicure? And then dinner or something, and maybe find a cool place for dessert (cupcakes or homemade ice cream or something?).

  • I second the pedi idea. You could also go to a movie after and let her pick out candy :)

  • Brunch and a pedi would be fun and low key

  • If she's that shy and anxious...put her in control of what you do a lot of the time.  Have ideas laid out so she's not put on the spot to think of things...but remember, just hanging out with you 1 on 1 is probably the best part of the day for her.  Don't make her feel pressured to jump through a lot of hoops...or go into a lot of busy places.  Maybe pick a park or some where quiet without anyone paying attention to you to let her unwind part way through the day.

An idea for lunch...if you have one close by Red Robin has burger and fries which is familiar but in a bit more grown up style.  Just a thought.

  • If she's into fashion do you have one of those high end department stores that does the personal shopper/fitting service? I think Macy's and Nordstrom have it at some locations, and they could let her play in all the grown up trendy clothes. I don't know if it would make her to anxious or if because it's 1 on 1 she might be OK.

  • I like the mani/pedi idea. For the fashion angle, you could take your fashion magazines there to look at while you get your toes done. I agree with others that Teen Vogue would be great for her, or I get People StyleWatch and Instyle in the mail which are also a little less high end than Vogue. (It's also fun to see the celebrities in those and gossip about what they're wearing.) Then you could go shopping for an outfit.
Another fun thing would be to go to a pottery painting or canvas painting studio together.

  • I remember one year, my mom took me to get my hair done, nails painted and toes painted, then we got lunch and shopped for a new outfit, and got all dressed up for a special dinner at a fancy place where we just ordered desert! It was the best birthday! I think i was 14, and it was my "golden birthday" (turned 14 on the 14th) :) it was a full day and i felt so grown up, and special! And having desert for dinner was such a huge treat for me! :)

Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses....
All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!

If you're looking for an afternoon activity (it's not fashion but it's creative and artsy) find one of those painting places.
    We have a ton around....
    Bottles and brushes
    Sips and strokes

They're advertised as bring a bottle of wine and recreate a painting. There's an instructor and it's a ton of fun.
Not everyone is drinking. It's more of a bring whatever drinks and snacks and hang out.
    They also do kids stuff.
