Exercauser Question

We have the Oball Exercauser thing for my LO.  When I first tried putting him in an exercauser/jumperoo we have at daycare, I noticed his one leg didn't reach.  I figured it had something to do with being 4 months and not quite ready.  We bought him one for home when he turned 5 months.  He loves it but one of his legs still doesn't reach the bottom.  The one is flat and reaches perfectly and the other dangles.  Has anyone else experienced this? Do you think one of his legs is shorter than the other? Maybe some other idea, I haven't thought of yet? I don't let him play in there for longer than a few minutes because of it, even though he has a ton of fun.

ETA: I was going to put in randoms but figured there isn't a ton going on today anyway.

Re: Exercauser Question

  • Yes!  We just got an exersaucer and same thing!  I think they might just be standing unevenly.  I put a book underneath to give him a bit more leverage.

Sometimes when I put LO in her jumperoo she's off center and one foot dangles. Have you tried adjusting his position?
I center him when I put him in and readjust position.  I was thinking maybe he just continues to shift weight to one side.  I'm really not sure.
  • @courtls22 lay him down and straighten his legs out to see... could need an adjustment from birth...

  • W definitely favors one leg, but I haven't noticed any dangling. She sort of leans herself to her right side and gets more action on that leg. Could it be that he's leaning once you put him in there?

I second the book idea - we did that when we first got it and it helped her be a little sturdier in there.

  • @dunvilles  He's asleep now and I'm trying to see without waking him.  It's hard to tell, but I'll definitely bring it up at his next dr. appt. to see what he thinks.

One of my legs was an inch shorter than the other. My chiropractor adjusted me and it went back to normal. :) don't know if that can happen with babies.

It wouldn't hurt to ask the pediatrician to double check for hip dysplasia.
  • Related question- are they supposed to be on their tippy toes and not flat footed in there? I thought that is what the instructions said, but I may have misread.

  • It's probably the seat or leaning to one side a bit in there. If hips were off or a leg was shorter, it should have been noticed by now. I wouldn't worry but bring it up to your pedi just to be sure.

I know in the jumperoo the are supposed to just have their toes touch not flat footed. I don't know about the exosaucer

I wonder why this is? Does it have something to do with muscle development in their feet?
    And then there were three...

  • Sorry to t/j but should I have not put a book under him? I think his tippietoes did touch without it but it seemed like they barely did.
  • I went back and forth on how to spell exersaucer- I went with the c first thinking of exercise but now I see in the random threads it is saucer like the bottom shape.  On the questions about tippietoes touching- I have never given it much thought.  Ours has a flat bottom and isn't a jumper so I figured their feet should totally touch but I don't actually know.

The oball instructions just have a drawing on tiptoes and a check mark over it- flat feet with an x over it and dangling legs with like two inches between foot and saucer with an x. I have a pillow under his feet because he was in the dangling category on the highest saucer setting.
He has one flat foot and one dangling so he's all messed up.  I also put a pillow under his feet but it doesn't make tiptoes. I just assume if I limit use to just a few minutes at a time for the time being, it will be fine.  I guess I should have looked at the instructions!
