Trying to Get Pregnant

A little confused after first RE appointment... Warning, long post!

Hi everyone! I have been fairly active on the boards for the past few months, mainly in the TWW and WTO threads. I realized that I kind of jumped in without ever actually introducing myself. Also, I apologize in advance for how long this post is-- can skip to the bolded if you don't want background info.

A little about DH and myself: I am 25, DH is 32 and we have been married for 2 years (together for 4). We are self employed and work together. We just purchased a new house back in June, and have been doing projects around there for the past month! We have a 2 year old golden retriever and a shelter cat that is likely 3-5 years old.  I previously had the Paraguard IUD from January 2010 until May 2013. We had unprotected sex right away after removal, but I didn't start charting until July 2013. I have never gotten a positive pregnancy test.

Yesterday I had my first appointment with an RE and luckily it was CD3! I took in all of my FF charts, and we did some blood work and an ultrasound. DH had previously had two SA's done, and I took copies of the results to the appointment. After all was said and done, my doctor concluded that DH's sperm was great and I was in fact ovulating and had plenty of eggs (she said greater than 40, not exactly sure what that means, but she said it was good) and ruled out any problems with DH sperm or my ovaries.

However, there was concern with my ultrasound that I didn't really get an explanation to, which has me very confused and worried. The ultrasound tech had to leave me in the room alone and call for my doctor, which is terrifying! They took more pictures, and I went back and sat with my doctor. Basically she couldn't give me much information, as she found it odd. I will try my best to explain the situation, but it was not made very clear to me at my appointment.

There was something potentially blocking the entrance to my uterus and the could see some blood up top of the blockage. She had said that it was likely clots that I would pass in days to come, as I am known to have heavy periods. She then tried to draw a picture to explain it, and didn't do a very good job! She tossed out words like polyps and the diagnosis on the form I took to check out said "Uterine Lesion".

She had said that we would know more when I go back in one month to see if whatever is in my uterus is gone after my next AF. So I go back late August for a Femvue and Ultrasound.

Anybody have the slightest clue what may be going on? Similar experience?

  • @jefa621 In one month I go back for another ultrasound, a procedure called a Femvue (to check any blockage in the tubes I believe), and we will go from there, so no HSG yet.

My doctor believes that it is just clots, and that they should be gone by next time. FX

I was overall very disappointed in the appointment, because my doctor didn't tell me much or ask too many questions. If this is how it is next time, I will schedule all other appointments with a different doctor!

  • @MeatandBandP That is what I am trying to do, but the thing that concerns me is that AF has pretty much already stopped. The doctor had kept saying, maybe your heavy flow day is yet to come and didn't really listen to me when I had said that my flow had pretty much disappeared.

So I just feel weird sitting here with stuff stuck in there in hopes that it will come out with next AF.

  • @jefa621 It would have been cool if my doc would have explained the procedure to me, rather than handing me a sheet that tells me the cost and a note that reminds me all procedures need to be paid in full prior to them being performed.

I guess I have just read too many posts on here about GREAT RE's and mine just seems a little lack-luster :(

  • @jefa621 hopefully I can come back in a day or two and give you the same TMI story ;)

@MeatandBandP Yes, the wait and see is the worst. Luckily this cycle I will be very busy with work, and will be distracted most of the time! I just wish that I would have gotten a little bit more information at the appointment! I guess that is my fault for not getting more clarification, but it was all so overwhelming!

Thanks to you both for your input!

  • @MeatandBandP I likely am overreacting. I know that most places make you pay up front, it would have just been nice to get some information about the procedures I would be having at the next appointment as well as stuff about price and such. She literally did not tell me what we would be doing, I had to decipher it from the form I handed to check out.

  • No advice but wanted to say good luck.  It sounds like you are on the right track and doing a good job of charting and tracking.  Hopefully you will get more answers next appt.

  • Good luck!! I don't have any advice other than this whole process happens one day at a time.
    Anniversary

  • I mostly lurk over here, but wanted to throw in my two cents. (since I didn't see anyone really talking about polyps)

I have had two uterine polyps.  They were not blocking the entrance, but I could easily see how they could.  I had a D&C done to remove one which was about 2cm in diameter - it was a pretty easy proceedure - it is outpatient surgery, but I was mostly tired the rest of the day and fine by the next day.  Two years later, I had a "uterine lesion" show up on my HSG.  The dr said it was most likely another polyp, and we were going to do a test to confirm, but I ended up pregnant that month, and he said if it didn't stop me from getting pregnant, then it wouldn't be an issue (and it wasn't!).

I just wanted to let you know that if it does end up being a polyp, it's probably not that big of a deal (even if it does come down to surgery, it was WAY less traumatic than getting my wisdom teeth out!) and after they're removed, it shouldn't have any affect on your fertility (heck, if it's blocking the entrance, it may increase your fertility!!).

Good luck and I hope you get some actual answers soon!

  • @rbtrumpet Thank you for sharing that! That is the most concerning part to me, that during the appointment the diagnosis of Uterine Lesion never came up, and I had/have no idea what that means. Since I did not see it until I was handing forms to check out, I didn't have the opportunity to ask!

I can't speak for your RE, but my guess would be it's something that they'll be checking out more at the next appointment (if it doesn't clear up on it's own).  It may be something that you'll have to deal with, but doesn't sound insurmountable.

I have no idea but i hope it resolves itself.

Fwiw i had an u/s where they found either a cyst or dilated fallopian tube. I had a recheck 2 months later and what they saw was gone.
