2nd Trimester

I am pregnant, not broken

Hello ladies. I've been a lurker here since my first pregnancy in 2009. I'm on baby number 3 now.
You'd think that maybe, MAYBE, people would understand that I'm not new to this. I don't need the constant nagging and worrying about what I should and should not be doing.
But nooooooooo, instead I hear "you should be resting more"
"You shouldn't be carrying that"
"You need to stay off your feet"
"Let your husband take care of everything"
Etc, etc, blah blah blah.

Yeah. Right.
As a stay at home mom with a toddler and a preschooler, whose husband works long hours, I have things to do! The world doesn't stop because I'm pregnant! I'm not some speshul wittle gum drop who will break at a glance.

**rant over**

I found this article and it made my day. I may email it this to everyone who has a "helpful" comment lol.

Haha love this post. Lately I can't get through a workout without someone asking questions about my pregnancy.

  • Love the post! So true!
I'm a FTM so new to the whole being pregnant thing but it makes me so annoyed people think I've lost my common sense.
Do I ask for help to lift a 40 pound bag of dog food in Petsmart? Yes.
Do I need help carrying a 5 pound bag of potatoes to my car? Um. No. And if you ask me again if I need help I'll probably hit you with the bag of potatoes...
  • So true!

The one thing that annoys me more than people treating me that way, is when pregnant women themselves act like they're fragile breakable. "I cannot lift that, cannot do that, cannot go there etc" types of attitude.

  • Awesome! I need to print this out to give to my boss, who immediately after finding out I was pregnant would intervene if I wanted to life ANYTHING. Box of cupcakes? No no I GOT THAT. Bankers box with empty gift bags, light as a feather...he RAN to cut me off and carry it, lest I hurt my poor pregnant little self.

Drives me crazy! You keep going, Mama, you know what you're doing. :)

  • Completely agree! I'm not sick, I'm not broken, and I am certainly not stupid. I know what I can and can't do, so leave me the f alone. If I'm tired I will rest, if it's too heavy to lift I will ask for help. I think dh is the only one who doesn't bug me about being pregnant.

  • Love this. I have a fairly phsyical job and people expect me ti just stop working and sit at home knitting until baby arrives. I don't here any of those folks offering to pay my bills though !

  • That article is fantastic! It highlights not only the non-pregnant people treating us pregos like we're incapable of doing anything, but also the pregnant women who think that their baby is going to be born with 3 arms because they had one cup of coffee.
