No more bottles ???

Hi Ladies I'm curious to see others feeding schedules for their LOs. My DD is 13months and I am struggling with if I'm giving her too much milk (in a bottle) and not enough solids. Our pediatrician says she's still needs 24oz a day but that can include other sources besides milk. DD will only take water out of her sippy, not milk. So here's our schedule.
She wakes up has 8oz of milk in her bottle then about 45min I feed her breakfast. Then after morning nap she has lunch (solids) and then before her afternoon nap around 3 she has about 6oz of water. Then later it's dinner and then 8oz of milk in her bottle before bed.

Any suggestions on how to switch milk in bottle to milk in sippy? Does that mean no more set times for milk, she just has milk with her meals? No bedtime bottle even if that's part of our nighttime routine?

FYI dd now refuses to eat yogurt of any kind and I can't get her to eat bough cheese so I had to add back that afternoon bottle to make sure she's getting the 24oz (even though I feel like that's a lot for one day).

Any advise or tips, I'd really love !

Thanks!!

Our pediatrician said 16-24 oz per day. We still do an ~8oz bottle of milk before afternoon nap and at bedtime, and he has a sippy cup of milk with his meals (it usually takes all 3 meals and 2 snacks for him to finish 8 oz). He eats solids pretty well though.

I'm also trying to think about getting rid of the bottles. I know he doesn't need it for nap at daycare, so I know he can fall asleep without it, but he definitely isn't drinking enough during the day most days.

ETA: for your situation, I would cut the morning milk first, and go straight to breakfast and offer it with breakfast. Have you tried different types of sippy cups? Benjamin doesn't seem to care what his milk is in, but I've heard of other LOs being picky about it.

  • Thanks @Jo581011‌ . That's a good idea, I think we will start with eliminating the morning bottle first and I will try her milk in her sippy. She loves her sippy, she just doesn't like milk in it .. Yet lol maybe she will bc she'll be very hungry??!
  • @millar321 what nipple flow do you have on your bottle? perhaps the sippy doesn't get her milk fast/slow enough like her bottle?

  • We had a hard time finding a sippy that worked for G but we finally found one. He only gets one bottle a day and that's his bedtime bottle that has formula in it. His morning sippy with breakfast is toddler formula and he gets milk in a sippy at lunch and dinner and he always has a sippy of water available to him. I know he doesn't need a bottle to fall asleep but he still gets a nighttime bottle until we're out of formula. I would just buy a couple different sippys and see which ones work for your LO. We went through a ton before we found one!

  • I am like, the last person to give advice on this lol  Q doesn't take bottles during the day at all (all milk in sippies) but he still gets a bedtime bottle (milk) and he still wakes up and eats once overnight (sometimes twice!).  We really need to do CIO with him but I dread it so much and worry that he's going to scream forever and wake up Aiden.  He's mega stubborn and does not sooth without that bottle.

  • She gets around 20 oz of milk a day. She gets a morning sippy of 5oz then breakfast about 30 minutes later. She gets a sippy with each meal after that.

After I quit pumping/nursing at around 11.5 months I just started giving her a sippy cup. She had no choice. She didn't like it much but she got used to it within a day or two. I gave her the Nuk brand sippy cup which has a soft spout. She didn't like the hard spouts. Now she will drink out of anything.

  • Not to hijack the thread, but I was going to post about this as well today. DD can/will drink water of any temperature out of any sippy cup without any obvious preferences. She will drink room temp or warm WCM out of a bottle. I am trying to get rid of the bottles, but she won't drink warm milk or cold milk out of a sippy. I guess my issue is like the OP, but we also have a temperature issue as well! Ugh. Thoughts? You ladies have been so useful in recent days.
  • I have no advice as I am struggling with the same thing. He will drink water from his straw sippy but not milk also he still takes his bottles warm so that's an issue as well. After he is done with his antibiotic I am going to try a different kind of cup for milk not one with a straw.
