Music Together classes

Has anyone been to a Music Together class? What goes on? Is it just singing and dancing for 45 minutes or is it more structured? I do a lot of music activities with LOs at home but was thinking about signing up for one of these classes in the fall. I know they are really popular and a lot of people like them but they are a bit expensive, especially with 2, so I'm trying to decide if its worth it. Also, do you think I'd need an extra adult with 2 babies, or would it be manageable with just me?

Re: Music Together classes

  • I am doing a musical class with DD and she is loving it.  They sing, use props and instruments.  DD loved playing the drums.  They did some activities where he had to lift them up to the music, so it might be difficult to do with both girls.  I would call them and ask.  My least favorite part was the woman insisted that the parents sing, by themselves at times.

We do The Music Class. Not sure if they have it where you are, but if so I recommend it. Particularly in your case, you should know that they offer sibling discounts and the teachers are always willing to help out with extra kids. I take both my girls and when there is a lap song, the teacher always volunteers to take a child, whether there are more kids than adults or not.

The only issue I would anticipate would be stand-up songs that might be challenging to pick up two babies and dance around. But in those cases, I would think a teacher would help with one. Most people with more than one kid would carry their baby and let the toddlers/big kids walk themselves. So the teacher should be free. Just don't join a class with other twin babies.
The Music Class also lets you try a class for free.
  • Super fun at this age! I think you could manage both. It doesn't get too crazy and other parents will help!

  • I think I'll do it. Thanks for all your feedback. @wedding06‌ they are in DC 2 days per week. They don't love it. I always leave them crying and they cry as soon as they see me in the afternoon. Today they got sent home because they have rashes, which sucks bc I was out of work all last week with a stomach virus and now I'm out with them. They're not even sick or uncomfortable and the doctor said it didn't warrant a visit. And when I looked at them when I got home I couldn't really see anything. Hopefully they can go back on Thursday.

  • @ballygirl‌ - your pediatrician should be able to give you a "return to DC" note if you call in the morning. I assume the pedi found nothing wrong and assuming they didn't have a fever today, there should be no reason they can't go back tomorrow (unless, of course, tomorrow is not a DC day).

  • I checked their website and you can attend a session for free to see hOw you like it. We're going to one on Friday!
  • We go to the library's storytime every week and that is free but I haven't found any music related activities at the libraries for babies. They have toddler music classes 2yrs+ but nothing for infants. I don't mind paying for classes because its partly for me too, this class just seemed a little more expensive than I was expecting. They do have a sibling discount though, so I think I'm just going to do it. I often run out of ideas keeping them occupied all day when I'm home with them, so its nice to have a structured activity that we can go to. Plus its really nice to meet other parents. I don't know very many irl.
