Work solutions needed

I work from home as an editor and I have a very big, very long project due in two days. I'm struggling because I simply cannot sit at my desk and work the hours I need to! My chair is so uncomfortable. Unfortunately, getting a new chair is not possible right now.

What tricks do you use to survive work days? I have a stool to put my feet on, but that only helps for a little while. I sit on a cushion, but again, that's only temporary help. The belly is in the way so my keyboard is father than what is natural, so my arms, shoulders, and back just HURT. Even worse, to reach the keyboard, I find myself leaning forward a bit and baby really doesn't like that. She starts moving and kicking the most vile, painful kicks. Essentially, within an hour, I feel broken and crippled. This project should have taken me only a couple of hours, but has now been drawn out to several days longer than it should have!

Help me please! This is my last deadline before the baby is due.

  • Hmm, I'll have to pull mine out again then. I just remember from my last pregnancy, it was too low for my mouse. But I have a trackball mouse now (forgot about that) so maybe it will be different?

This is what I did last pregnancy... until I broke the laptop. :'(  It's actually kind of funny.  I was on the couch, with the coffee table pulled close, and the laptop on my lap.  I was on bedrest, so this was the only way I could work.  Anyway, I reached for my coffee right next to me, and the laptop slid off my lap, bounced off the dog and hit the ground.  On top of that, I sloshed my coffee on the keyboard trying to grab it, and half the keyboard shorted out.  Bye-bye laptop.

We got a secondary keyboard for it and that worked for a while, but then one day it just wouldn't turn on.  I've set it aside and haven't touched it because I want to take it in to a computer expert and get all of my pictures off the harddrive.

  • I have a laptop stand that I secured my pc to.  That way I can work from the recliner chair.
  • I work from home too and I just pretty much change positions every freaking minute. Bed, couch, yoga ball, desk over and over. Nothing works for more than 10 minutes :((

I made a pillowfort in the bed with a hole for the bump so I could lay on my stomach. That worked great until I realized there is no way I can type fast enough laying like that!

So sorry, no advise but I feel your pain!!!
  • I have a laptop and work from home so I move positions all day, but spend the majority of my time on the couch. I hope you get this project done soon, I'm sorry you're experiencing this!

  • I work in an office and my boss nixed the yoga ball idea :(  But just sitting and rocking around on it for 10 minutes helps me to be able to sit a little while longer in the uncomfortable chair.  I will use it on the nights that even laying down hurt and it gives me a little relief, even if its brief.

  • So you may already be done with the project, but whether I work from home or in the office, I've found I have to get up every hour and walk around for a few minutes. If I don't my back kills me. If I'm at home and am at a point where I have to stop and 'think' about something for a few minutes before I start typing again, I'll stand up and do my thinking while I stretch my arms and legs. And do some neck rolls too. If I'm at work, I'll go in the bathroom and do my stretches there.

  • I'm even more frustrated and annoyed at this stupid project. :( I pulled my exercise ball out... and the plug is missing. I deflated the thing after DS was born, so I have NO idea where it could be. I'm pissed off that we saved it for so long when its useless, and I'm mad because I was really hoping that would ease the everything!

At this point, I might have to ask for an extension. Even getting up and moving frequently doesn't seem to help. Everything just HURTS.

I sit behind a desk for most of the day. I just have to deal with it and move around when I can.

    Not much longer.

  • I get up and walk or wiggle my hips around at least once an hour. When I get home, I take an Epsom salt bath and let my sore body soak for awhile. I haven't found anything to get rid of the pain and discomfort, but I think these things help me cope with it better. Good luck!

^ This is all that's helping at this point - Aveeno Lavendar Bath is my new best friend. Down to wearing slip on sneakers, pillow and blanket in my office chair & keep my feet up on a stool under my desk. There is no comfortable anymore.
