If your H doesn't talk to his sister, then you should. Really. As an aunt.
I agree, but he is adamant that we don't 'start trouble'. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. We will be having a talk tonight about it when he gets home from work because his parents brought up the weekend again.

  • Yea, I think everyone has covered it. Not even up for debate.

If it helps, get all the latest safety literature and bring it to them, along with a safe seat you and H purchase and install.

All testing shows both H and I are perfectly normal. Baby Nacho had triploidy.

I'd sit your husband and your ILs down and suggest they purchase an expired parachute, not strap it on but just hold on to it and then jump out of a plane.  Ask them if that seems absurd because this situation?  Same damn thing.

    I love this analogy.
It sucks but a lot of people just really don't comprehend the importance of a car seat.  I'm not sure how it escapes people but somehow they truly feel like "Eh, they're a little restrained so it's all good." But they would never jump out of a plane like that.

Me too. I agree with pp that car seat safety is nonnegotiable to me.
I'm sure her ILs and possibly her husband would be angry about it, but it very well could save a life.
  • New car seat properly installed or LO doesn't ride with them. End of discussion.
    This.  Really, this.

But, one point that might get through to them is that cars are not made the same way they were in 80's.  Carseats today are made with new car designs in mind (side airbags, etc.).  It is not a cosmetic thing, it is a functional thing.  If they are like my dad, they need things explained like that and that argument made a lot of sense to him.

    Good luck.

  • Car seat safety is nonnegotiable. It's your child's safety. I wouldn't give a flying fuck about their feelings. And make sure his sister knows. Her child's safety is 100% worth the drama.
