Trying to Get Pregnant

Young PCOS TTC Couple

Hiya, my husband and I have been trying to conceive roughly for 2 years now. We have been having frequent unprotected sex and have tried Pregnacare and Seven Seas TTC vitamin range (although not properly) and also asked our GP for help. I was diagnosed with PCOS and deemed 'too young' and myself 'too overweight' for any further help. Has anybody else gone through, or going through a similar thing? We really want to get some progress but we seem to be at a standstill at the moment.

    Vitamins won't get you pregnant.

    Pregnacare is a scan.

Your GP is not qualified to make that diagnosis, and is dead wrong about your age or weight being limiting factors for treatment.

Go to an OB or call an RE if your insurance doesn't require referrals. GPs are the worst possible person to go to for something like this. You might as well have just asked people at the grocery store.

Ditto to this. Run, don't walk, away from that doctor and go see an RE.

  • I'm going through something similar. I'm 24 me and husband TTC for 3 years. I have PCOS and am
Over weight. I've seen 2 different REs and they mostly say the same things which is we can try medications but you need to Lose weight.
Did 3 rounds of clomid and nothing, now I'm just working on trying to lose weight since I have done lots of research and it has shown to increase ovulation and boost fertility. Best of luck to you!
  • This is my first time posting so I am sorry if I offend anyone.., I was just looking for some information on Metformin and I stumbled across this post. My Dr just prescribed it to me today, she told me it is mostly used for women with diabetes or PCOS which I do not have either..or well I have never been checked for PCOS. I have been TTC for about 2 years now and everything with my husband came back fine so I am really hoping this metformin will help me to conceive. Has anyone else had experience with this? Or if you are TTC maybe its worth asking your Dr about? I have read lots of scenarios where it helped other women who were TTC. It's also said to help with weight loss. I do apologize if this is not the appropriate board for this.
  • honestly sometimes i think they hand monkeys medical degrees... oh NM I used to teach the classes they had to take and some of them were "special"

re clomid: see pinned post and previous convo from today, its not candy

re metformin: unless you have had ultrasounds to confirm you have pcos, oh and have confirmed blood glucose issues (which contribute to weight) . DONT TAKE IT.... unless you want to lose weight, lots of water weight, in a very very unpleasant way
  • My Dr did tell me those were side effects, I am also pretty sure I don't have PCOS as AF has always been very regular for me. She suggested trying for another 6 months and then maybe further testing/trying the Metformin.  But after nearly 2 years of TTC I feel like I'm just desperate..I asked to be put on it now.  I don't know. I've read a lot of success stories..but then I've also read some horror stories. I think I'm going to stick with it for just a little while and see how I feel.. go from there.  Stupid? Maybe...I'll see what happens.

Yes, it is stupid. Metformin will do absolutely nothing for you if you don't have insulin resistance and if you are already having regular, ovulatory cycles. It is not a fertility drug. All it will do is give you fiery lava poops.

Is this an appropriate time to ask @Danielle8611‌ (not to hijack this thread, sorry OP) if she has been seeing a RE? If you're seeing an OB or your GP definitely take nothing.

Never let a doctor tell you that you're too young!! I made that mistake once when I had my pre-wedding BCP appointment (we weren't even planning on TTC anytime in the near future anyway hence the bcp). She's lucky she said that to 19 yo me and not present day me because she would've gotten an earful. Find an OBGYN or RE that is respectful. Also I have heard that losing weight is helpful for ovulation, my cousin's wife lost 70 lbs after 6 unsuccessful rounds of Clomid and got pregnant naturally. She swears by the weight loss.
