Well that sucks considering I love nectarines! Too bad they don't even say what stores this fruit went to.... Oh well no point in worrying - unless I start feeling ill. Lol.
The link i saw said bjs, sams, trader joes, stop and shop, and i think one more store that wasnt near me. Call the store you bought them from. I just got home and saw this! Called the store, front end was an idiot and i - very nicely considering!- asked to talk to the manager. He said none went to that store and im good with my plums.
I stopped buying peaches from the grocery years ago. Now I only buy them from local farmer's markets. I only buy them when they're in season. I live 1 state away from Georgia, and we get fresh peaches trucked into my local market the day after they're picked! Seriously, the best peaches ever!
Now, lest you think I sound like a foodie snob… I totally eat lunch meat whenever I feel like it. Admittedly it's not that often, but when I do, I sure as hell don't do anything like heat it in the microwave. My doctor literally said to me "…and you don't have to do anything crazy like heat your lunchmeat up in the microwave."
Thank you for posting this! I *just* bought organic nectarines and plums and sure enough they're on the list (>_<) FYI- I bought them from a local store -Sudbury Farms (owned by Roache Brothers) in MA
I saw the notices at a Fred Meyer in WA today. Really irked me, I've been on a major fruit salad with honey line dressing kick. It's a miracle I haven't come down with anything yet.

That's where I learned of it, too! Fingers crossed they didn't have that brand or any infected fruit! Just polished off three nectarines over the weekend, but can't find a sticker to know the brand.
@zengal - I know at least some of the produce from Dillons in our area were affected. My coworker's husband is a produce manager for them and he called to give me a heads up that they had been affected.
Well I just got off the phone with the triage nurse and she said they won't test me unless I have symptoms. And even then I'd have to first go to the hospital to be seen and then they still may or may not test me - they might just treat the symptoms. Ugh. Apparntly because it can take MONTHS to show up, they say there is no point in testing, but they have noted in my chart that I've been exposed.
Everything I've read said that in pregnant women the symptoms will be really mild so how in the heck will I know if I just have a headache or if its listeriosis. I mean I'd rather just pay to have them test my blood once every couple of weeks for the next 3 months to be on the safe side - even if its not covered by insurance.
I thought about saying oh well I haven't been feeling well BUT I also don't want to go to the hospital and subject my unborn child to unnecessary medications if that is still no guarantee that they'd check me for it.
I mean for as big of a deal as they make about listeria in pregnancy, they certainly seem reluctant to be proactive about it. Just one more thing for my poor PGAL mind to worry about....

Wow. Ridiculous! All of this. Especially the fact they'd treat you without in fact determining if that's what you had. Our Healthcare system is effed.
@ckwick Glad I'm not the only one who thinks its nuts. I am moving to a new city in less than 2 weeks and cannot wait to leave this practice I am with now. Unfortunately, given the size of town we are in now, I didn't have many options so I had to go with the least worst one if you know what I mean. I will be so thankful to get back to a large city with GOOD healthcare.
When my mom was pregnant with me she had listeria. She actually got it about a week before she was due with me. She contracted it from eating KFC coleslaw. The cabbage was infected. She had no idea what was wrong, she just had a really high fever and was admitted to the hospital. We live in Canada and this was 1981 so they had called in a dr from the WHO to deliver me. I was delivered by an emergency c section and obviously survived with no lasting effects. My mom was on high doses of IV antibiotics and I was in the NICU for a week for monitoring but that was all.
Basically, listeria can show up in anything and my mom said her only symptom was a high fever!
I just read what is posted on the Internet - it was fruit that was sold at Costco, sam's club, trader joe's and Walmart. An of course I bought them from Walmart last week! And there are two in my fridge right now that I will toss once I get home. I'm seeing my dr. today, curious to find out what they will say.
Wouldn't you know you had listeria? Like other people are commenting saying they need their blood drawn to check but I thought since it's a type of food poisoning you would know after like a couple hours of eating if you had gotten it.
@flutterbuggie - listeria can take as long as a month to show symptoms I believe.
@lissydee oh geez those stores weren't mentioned in what I read. This is a huge recall! My dr. said pretty much the same thing - about symptoms can show 2-30 days after exposure and that it's only treated if you have symptoms - hard to diagnosis bc even if you test negative that doesn't mean you didn't have it... Also she said its pretty uncommon and she called a specialist bc she didn't even hear of the outbreak and this particular dr. has never even had a case of listeriosis. But she did write a script for me for another US to check LO's growth - if I start freaking out.
Why does every article give a different list of stores? I've been buying peaches and nectarines from Hannaford for the last month! Luckily only my husband eats them but I'm still (perhaps unreasonably) concerned about listeria having rubbed onto other fruit in the fruit bowl, or on the cutting boards. When I asked my doc what to do if exposed back in May (due to concerns about travel to Italy), she told me she didn't think there was anything you could do...so much for being up-to-date since it seems like there have been antibiotics for listeriosis for a while now. Maybe there is some logic to avoiding uncooked fruits and vegetables completely...
Now there is a "voluntary bread withdrawal" for concerns of listeria. And the bread I eat every morning for toast - including this morning - is one of the breads made by- Schwebel's. Ughhhh what the hell.
^^ bread now, too! Well, crap, what kinds? Does anyone else feel like you can't eat anything these days with all the pesticides, outbreaks, and crazy shit manufacturers are doing to their "food"? This is cray cray!
@ckwick Yep. I'm in Western PA. The bread plant in question is in Youngstown OH. If you google it, you should be able to find the kinda of bread they make. Also giant eagle brand bread comes from that factory as well.
Just to make it clear (and hopefully to make you feel better), no illnesses of listeria have been reported from eating the fruit from this recall. They found it on routine testing. Since it can take a while to show symptoms, it might still affect people, but this may be a cautionary thing. My guess is they got a positive test sometime last week but are recalling 6 weeks worth of fruit just in case.

Re: PSA: Listeria recall - peaches/nectarines
But yeah. The fruit thing is disappointing. Listeria sucks!
