Rock Concert at 8 months?

So DH and I are Mötley Crüe fans and when they announced their last tour ever with guest Alice cooper we jumped and bought tickets. We'll be attending their very last concert at their last stop of the tour. This is kind of a big deal, to us.

About 2 months after buying the tickets we found out we'll be having a little fan of our own. The concert date puts me about 36 weeks pregnant.

I've done some internet reading about concerts and being pregnant and found that the inner ear is developed by 22 weeks and that the amniotic fluid muffles noise, seems safe. However I have also found the opposite information. So just for shits and giggles in putting it to The Bump.

1. Would you do it/ have you (if Mötley Crüe isn't your style fill-in the blank with whatever is)

2. What would you think if you were attending and saw a big ol baby bump next to you?

3. If you have or know anyone who has what did you think? Good experience? Bad?

Thanks in advance for reading and answering :)

Re: Rock Concert at 8 months?

  • I would check with my OB. Then there would be thoughts of overall comfort, staying hydrated, etc. I am assuming you don't have to travel OOT for the concert.

  • As long as you're not in the pit, staying hydrated and being sure to sit periodically you should be fine.

  • I would check with your OB. With that said, I did go to a concert at 36 weeks when I was pregnant with ds#1. We had seats though. Not sure I would've gone if it were lawn seats or general seating.

Check with your OB.  If they give the all clear, then I say Rock On!

DH and I love going to concerts, and more than likely I would power through, esp for a final tour situation like this.  I saw Motley Crue a few years ago, and they put on an excellent show (even though Mick Mars can barely move anymore)
    ;)

ETA - regarding having a baby bump at a show - I wouldn't give it a second look/thought.  We were at some concerts over the weekend, and i saw baby bumps left and right.  Just don't have a beer or cigarette in your hand (saw that too - it was KLASSY!)
  • I should have mentioned I asked at our first appointment and she said it's all good, more of a personal preference really. I will be asking closer to the date as well. Thank you STM I didn't really consider my energy level around then, I've been mostly concerned about baby. If I find it that bad I can always leave which is plan B haha

Sure. I'd do it. As long as you don't have to travel and you aren't in the pit, I don't see what the problem is. Nor would I even think to ask my OB.

I would as long as I wasn't in the pit. Have fun! Chances are you probably won't get to go to a concert for a while. I really want to see Tom Petty while he's here but I dont think that's gonna happen. I would also be 8 mo pg. Luckily he still tours every so often so I can catch him next time. I prefer watching my fave bands with booze in hand :)

  • I went to Countryfest at about 36 weeks last time. It was fine - it's a big drinking event and obviously I wasn't drinking - everyone else was drunk - but other than that it wasn't bad. I was glad my friends had a guaranteed so sober ride home without having to pay for a limo/bus.

  • I'd check with your OB. I personally wouldn't do it. I had the option to go to a Steelers/Ravens game on my birthday this year. I didn't want to, but I passed on it. I would have been 34 weeks. I know I wouldn't have the energy to deal with it. Instead I traded and we're going to the first game so I'll be 26 weeks. I was going to try, but I was miserable at the end. Heartburn, nausea, fatigue, all the aches and pains. If a saw an extremely pregnant woman I'd just hope she didn't go into labor. That and that I don't know how she's doing it.

Yup! I wouldn't want to be up late and all the smoke would give me a headache. I get seriously cranky when I am that preggers so I would probably be annoyed with all the people in my personal space. Lol
  • It would depend on the venue and seating but I'd go if I was still feeling good.

  • I went to this same show last week! Alice was amazing and I'm so glad we went! We also saw KISS the Saturday before. I drank water and was able to sit whenever I needed. I think if your energy level is up to it go for it! I plan on seeing Judas Priest in November just afew weeks before my due date.
  • I found a show I wanted to see @28 weeks pretty badly but we're not going because of the noise, we're not going because we don't know what we'd be exposing ourselves and subsequently the baby too...people smoke all kinds of weird shit at concerts.

I just went to the Beyonce and Jayz concert in baltimore a couple weeks ago. Doc said it was fine, but we ended up leaving early because the pot smoking, volume, and heavy, vibrating bass was making me nervous.  And it was in the Raven's stadium, which is huge and outside.  I say if your doctor says it's fine and you're up for it, go for it!  I'm just too much of a nervous nelly!

  • Those wouldn't be hard tickets to sell.  Just plan on going and if you aren't feeling up to it just sell the tickets.

  • I know if it were the Red Hot Chili Peppers, I would go in a heartbeat and risk being uncomfortable. But I went to a concert at about 36 weeks with my youngest and had a blast, I went to the movie theater a week previous and that was more uncomfortable to me.

  • I'm going to Fleetwood Mac at 36 weeks, and I'm prepared to be a little uncomfortable, I'm way too excited for the show to consider not going.  It does help that it's falling on a Saturday so I'll be able to rest and take it easy for most of the day, honestly hadn't occurred to me that it would be an issue at all.
  • I'll be going to the Bucs/Bengals football game at 38 weeks. My only concern is climbing alllll those steps and sitting in an uncomfortable seat. I'd say go for it, who knows when the next time you guys will be able to go do something fun like that?
  • We had tickets to see U2 when I was pregnant with DS. I mentioned it offhand when my OB asked our weekend plans and he immediately told me no way. I was shocked and a bit peeved, especially since he's not the extra cautious type. The man lets me continue riding horses, for Pete's sake. Anyway, he worried me enough that we sold our tickets and I'm glad we didn't go. The concert was so loud, people several miles away said they sat on their porches and heard every word. Just something to think about.

So we are concert goers big time! We do have tickets to Motley Crue in a week and a half.  I asked my ob about going and she said it is probably ok.  Well that probably has told DH that it is not a good idea.  She did say that outside venues are probably better than indoors and to stay away from the speakers.  Our Crue tickets are on the floor and will probably be loud.

I did go see NIN and Soundgarden last night, and I seemed ok. I am tired as fuck today and sore from all the uphill walking.  I stayed hydrated and have felt baby move today. So I am still kinda on the fence with this.
I do really wish there was some hard evidence that would tell us one way or the other.  I know it is Motley Crues last tour, but deep down I think is it worth it if there are risks?

    ETA: NIN was outside

We're you at PemFest by any chance?! I have a game plan, I'm going I have a seat I can go get concession if I need a little break and I can altogether leave if I feel really uncomfortable. For most of what I have read it is totally fine, this for me is based on the 36 weeks and the development being more advanced. Maybe that is why your OB said probably, or could just be they don't want to be the ones to blame god forbid there was any bad result

Thank you everyone for your input, I'm feeling awesome about the upcoming show!
  • avonleaC - makes sense at being more advanced development stage.   No I was not at PemFest? Where is that usually at?  I am a little bummed about possibly not going, but we will see.  I hope you have a great time.  Nothing beats live music! \m/

It was just this weekend and both sound garden and NIN were there....I was not however lol
  • Oh awesome... Well no I am in the states, I was at NIN and Soundgarden last night. It was just them and some shitty DJ opened for them, because I guess whomever they had to open for them broke up or something mid-tour?  Not sure of the validity of that rumor.

  • katehgee - OMG was it awesome! I saw NIN last year and it was a completely different show. I have NEVER seen a band/act come out on stage the way he did last night.  It was NOT mind-blowing but it was totally different! Was interesting and made me love him even more.  I wont spoil it for you, but you should definitely check back in with me, so we can compare notes.

  • I'm going to see my fav band from high school who are having a reunion show. I'll be 8 months. I'm considering not even mentioning it to my OB. It's a small venue and I can't miss this opportunity to see this band again, and to drag my husband so he can get a sense of the scene I was into for so many years, plus I'm certain to see people I haven't seen in ten years. :)

I'm dying to know what band!

I plan to continue to go to shows while pregnant, but will exercise caution and not stand next to the speakers/get overheated/etc.  I don't imagine any of the shows we might go to will be too raucous.

  • I'm going to NIN in 2 wks too in NY! I'll be 27 wks and it outdoor and I'm not in the pit (which is where I normally would be) so I think it should be fine. I'm happy to see so many NIN fans. I'm kind of excited about soundgarden too.
