My family member is throwing me a baby shower. I plan on only inviting my girl friends. The host is planning on inviting all family, including male relatives. Is that weird, or acceptable?
My DH and male relatives will be there (if they want to be)... my mom is specifically having a small shower at her house so that my grandparents can come (they cannot travel all the way down to where i live). Is there a separate room where the guys can go in the house?
**siggy warning**

We are having a co-ed shower. I really wanted DH to be part of it and my sister (who is throwing the shower) was fine with that. Plus we have a friend coming in from out of town with their significant other. I feel DH should be involved in as much as possible. We also had a combined bachelor/bachelorette party too. I think it depends on the people.
We just did that this past weekend. It would have been a super small shower with just the ladies, and since it was DH's side, it make sense that he was there too. It was definitely more casual than my other showers but we had a great time. We invited all the couples on his side of the family and my parents. It wasn't weird at all.
It is acceptable, although not always the norm. My shower with my side of the family was women-only. The shower my IL's threw was co-ed. It really just depends upon what the hosts decide and who the potentially invitees are. My co-ed shower was a lot less "shower-like" i.e. no games, and the gift opening part was mercifully short
I hate those awkward uncomfortable ladies only parties so having a co-ed shower. My best friend is hosting it and she knows I'd prefer that. I have just as many male friends as I do female, and I want SO and his friends to be welcome as well.
There wont be any girly games (also thanks to my host knowing I hate them), its going to be more of a BaByQ. Since it's going to be a Sat afternoon in Oct/Nov and we live and breathe SEC here in Mississippi, there will be football on tv for the guys to watch. So they wont have to sit around and feel really weird.
Would I invite them to a traditional games/snacks baby shower? No. But to a BBQ baby shower? Yep.
It is true that the hosts decides but I know my husband would hate it and come up with an excuse to not go. He has been to two showers and although he was very polite while there, he later told me never again.
Been to both and it's been fun both ways. I threw one for my girlfriend in April at my place and it was women and kids only, but last fall I went to a "baby bash" where everyone was invited. It was a ton of fun, lots of people, great bbq, and lots of space for the guys to do their own thing if they chose.
It's up to you! People do both still but I feel like, at least with people I know, the co-ed showers are becoming more common.
I am going the co-ed route myself...it's our first baby and I want my husband to get to be celebrated too! My brothers/his brothers and his/my guy friends can, and in my mind, should be a part of it too. His only cavaeat was he and the boys get beer--fine by me, lol.

I have been to both and with the co-ed showers the men were just involved with the party as the women were. After all the baby's dad was involved with the party. I think it depends on your H, if he is involved then the others will stick around. Once he goes off... then the men will follow. Just as long as there are games and food to please the guest. I don't see any issues with having a co-ed party. Again it's the host decision as they are fronting the cost.

Ultimately, the person who is hosting your shower gets to decide. A shower is a gift to you from that person.
