Sick, sick, sick updated

This is a whiny post. I'm so sorry, I'm just so sick of being sick. I had a really tough IVF cycle and now a difficult 1st tri. I just want to catch a break. I'm so thankful to be pregnant again, I really am.

DS had a fever on Thursday so I kept him home Thursday and Friday, to be safe. He was back to himself on Friday. I woke up Saturday morning with a bad sore throat and my nausea was horrible. I haven't eaten anything but a few popsicles and water since Friday. And I tried everything. I threw up four times.

My throat was still really bad this morning and I haven't been sleeping thanks to my throat, so I went to my PCP. She gave me a z pack for whatever is making me sick and Zofran, as I've lost 10 lbs already from not being able to eat. So far, the Zofran isn't helping. I hope it kicks in after a few doses. I'm desperate for some relief and terrified the nausea and vomiting are going to stick around for longer than 1st trimester since it's just now getting much worse at 12 weeks.

Thanks for listening. I'm just having a really hard time.

Update: so after my 6 hour ER visit yesterday, my OB decided to send a home health nurse to start an IV for fluids and Zofran, and gave me a rx for a stronger Tylenol combo med for this bad headache. So now I'm waiting for the nurse and hoping I can make it to our NT scan tomorrow. I never expected this and can't believe how devastating it's been. It's so hard not to worry about everything on top of it. Thank you all again for listening.

Oh no. No fun at all. I rem in my first tri when i was sick on top of all the first tri symp. Its miserable. I hope you get some relief very soon. Sorry mama.

I hope you feel better quick with the meds! (Just a warning if you didn't know, zofran can cause terrible constipation, so eat some fruit when your tummy settles

Oh M, I'm so sorry! That first tri nausea is much harder when you have a LO at home to take care of too.

I know my pregnancy with P was much more difficult than with E.

Oh no! I had a cold for five weeks during my first tri this time around. Between that and the throwing up I thought I wasn't going to make it. I finally gave up and went to the doc, they gave me amoxicillin and whatever I had cleared up within a few days. Keep hydrated and get some rest. I hope you feel better soon.

I'm sorry. Morning sickness is the worst. zofran alone didn't work for me the second time around. I had to add reglan for 4wks to get the vomiting/dehydration cycle under control. I hope you get some relief soon!

Thanks ladies. I really appreciate the kind words. @Ducky719‌ she swabbed me for strep and told me they should have results by Wednesday. She said the only other thing she would suspect would be a virus like mono, given my symptoms. She said if I'm not feeling better after a few days of antibiotics, to come back for a blood test.

I had morning sickness with my son through the fifth month - it was awful. This time it hasn't been as bad. My doctor told me small meals several times a day and to keep something in my stomach - sometimes it's so hard to do this, but it does make me feel better. I hope you feel better soon.

Maybe you need an IV with some hardcore electrolytes to get you back on your feet. That does the trick for me when I get really ill and rundown they could also give you iv zofran.

I couldn't stop throwing up this morning, so I ended up going to the ER today and spent 6 hours there feeling awful. Even the IV meds weren't doing much for the nausea and headache I ended up with.

Urine showed some dehydration, but blood work was okay so they wouldn't admit me. I actually wanted them to because I know the IV meds are at least stronger. I'm terrified being at home and throwing up more. My poor G was so clingy to me tonight. I feel so bad that he is missing me

DH has been such a help, but sometimes he just wants me. I haven't been to work in two days. Fingers crossed tomorrow is a better day and I can keep something down.

Your situation sounds SO hard. No worries about it sounding whiney- I can't even imagine how bummed I'd be in your shoes.

Shoot @mdiblasi10‌ I'm so bummed to hear you've been so sick! It's crazy how crippling it is. I was sick with both pregnancies pretty bad but never needing hospitalization. I can't imagine how you're feeling right now but I'm glad to hear you'll be getting some IV meds. Praying it works and gives you the relief you need. Thinking of you.

I'm all hooked up. The nurse came late last night and started my IV. So far, it's been pretty simple. The nausea is still a problem, but it's helping and I'm getting hydrated. We have our NT scan today at noon. I am so worried about baby girl so I can't wait to see her. Thank you all for thinking of me.

My hyperemesis was the worst at 17 weeks. I can remember feeling so defeated because everyone told me it would go away once I was in the second trimester. It's super hard but you'll get through this. I hope the Zofran kicks in and yea, get some good Tylenol with codeine for your headaches. That, and a little bit of caffeine, usually gave me at least a little bit of relief.

@itsmevkb‌ it's comforting to know I'm not alone and yet terrifying to hear that it was the worst for you at 17 weeks! It's so scary to not know when it will end. When did you begin to feel better? Could you ever eat again lol? It feels like I never will.

@mdiblasi10 Yea, I don't mean to scare you but I just remember everyone saying it would go away and then it never really did so at some point I just wanted to hear, yea, that sucks instead of oh, don't worry, it will go away. I figure if you think it might last the entire pregnancy then think how great it will be if it ends up going away.

Mine never truly went away but it did get much, much better after that week 17 (that was the worst in my first pregnancy. I have had it in all my subsequent pregnancies except for one, in varying degrees, the entire length of them.) I can remember being excited when I only threw up three times a day instead of 7 or more. I tried to focus on small victories, like hey I actually feel like eating, or hey, I drank a glass of water and didn't throw it up, or wow, I think I just went an entire day without throwing up let's see if we can get a streak going. For me, it was the worst in the first trimester and the first half of the second trimester, then I would get some relief of only throwing up maybe once or twice a day with some actual full days of not throwing up in there, and then it would pick back up again towards the end where I would end up throwing up my dinner every.single.night. That was sooooo exhausting. This is gross, but true, I would make my food choices based on what I felt would be not horrible to throw up later on. I do NOT recommend eating peanut butter and jelly or bbq ribs as I am still traumatized by those late night episodes (as is my husband!) Ha!

Zofran is a help but be forewarned that it can be very constipating.

If it helps, of all the women I've known, I only know one who had worse morning sickness than me and all the others had theirs ease up and eventually go away completely so the odds are on your side.

Hope your NT scan was perfect.

@itsmevkb‌ thanks for sharing your experience. I can't believe how bad yours was. You are a serious trooper! It's so much harder when you have another child, or more, to take care of. I loved being pregnant last time so this experience has been so, so different.

@TJ1979 Thank you! I'm still on the IV meds and getting another round of fluids this week. I am able to keep things down, but only a few things

The NT scan went great. We didn't get any good pictures but she looked perfect.
