So I guess I have been suggested to post on this board. So here is a little about me. I am 27 my DH is 38 we have been TTC for a while, recently met with a new OBGYN who has referred me to a infertility specialist. I may have PCOS and come with a long history of infertility problems in my family. Currently trying to pin point the issues I'm currently having. We meet with the specialist next week. I'm nervous not knowing what to expect from the specialist and this whole process. Any advice?

Thank you @iPutKetchupOnKetchup‌ . I am so happy my sister recommended the bump to me and that I have a place to ask questions and vent. I knew I was going to have trouble TTC I was very nervous when my OBGYN recommended me to see a specialist. Especially because of the $$$ money. I had a "class" more like an orientation they sent me home with a book about infertility and also a questionnaire for me and my DH . But I do need to start writing down my questions .

Welcome and sorry you find yourself here. I self-referred directly to a RE when we decided to try to get answers. That was about 6 weeks ago. In that time we're still in the testing phase. I'll be honest it is taking longer than I though (mostly because I stopped getting my period). It was obviously naive of me to think I could have an immediate diagnosis. So now, I'm just trying to be patient as we wait for answers. So, that's my advice. As difficult as it is, be patient. The way I figure, the more information the doctor collects the better the plan of action can be in the end.

The only advice I have for the first appointment is to get as many of your records sent over ahead of time as possible, ask the office what they would like you to bring (for example, mine cuts time by sending new patients a majority of the paperwork by email to fill out and bring in the day of) and writing down any questions you have. It is so easy to kick yourself in the ass on the ride home when you realize you forgot to ask a question. Good luck!

If you can get all of you infertility records and testing from your obgyn to send and a copy for yourself to bring I would. For my initial consult with the RE I say in the waiting room for an hour to as hour in a half because my obgyn didn't send my medical records like I requested and wouldn't let me pick up a copy for myself and the RE was trying to sweet talk them into faxing them .....matter of fact I still haven't received the records they said they mailed out last Tuesday....

I'm sorry you find yourself here, but welcome.

I agree that you should try to get your records sent ahead of time so that the doctor has as much info as possible prior to your consultation.

As far as the process, you may have to wait until your next period to begin additional testing (CD 3 blood work and ultrasound). For me, my first RE consultation was on 6/24, but I was mid-cycle, so I had to wait to start testing until last Monday (7/14). I'm still waiting to get all of my results back, so for me, from initial consult to my consultation to discuss a plan will probably be about 5 weeks. They've been great about getting me in for appointments, but the testing phase still tends to take a while.

Welcome to the board! I also have PCOS and DH is 11 years older. It was almost 7 weeks between initial appointment and first day of treatment. Make sure you get the panel of bloodwork done right away because it took 3 weeks to get results. Good luck!
