BFing check-in

Since dairyQueen is pretty busy, I will post this until she gets back...I stole this from my birth month BF check-in

How's breastfeeding going this week?

How old is LO ? How long between feedings?

EBF, EP, supplementing? EBF

What is your go to BFing position?

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?

Raves and rants?

Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO?

Anything else you want to share?

Re: BFing check-in

  • How's breastfeeding going this week? Ok...starting to figure out my balance

How old is LO ? How long between feedings?  Twin 11 week old girls, today it seems we are anywhere from1-3 hours...I imagine we may be starting in on a growth spurt

EBF, EP, supplementing? BF, pumping (when I can), and FF

What is your go to BFing position? across belly

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? I am back to work part time, so that has been a huge challenge.  I am not sure there is a solution to life with twins :)  You just do what feels right...

Raves and rants? Rave - starting to get supply back up (drinking more water and eating better); Rant - none

Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO? Just at work in my personal office using a nursing cover (UdderCover)

Anything else you want to share? I made no bake lactation cookies last night and ate them for breakfast today...all in the name of making milk!  (And loving cookies :) )

    How's breastfeeding going this week?

It's okay. We hit a rough patch two weeks ago and it seems to have passed. H wouldn't eat without screaming, but he only fusses every now and then now.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings?

9 months today. Usually they do 3 hours between feeds. E goes longer at night and sometimes H sleeps through the night.

EBF, EP, supplementing? H is breastfed and I pump for E. They both eat 2 solid meals a day.

What is your go to BFing position? I don't know what it's called. Cradle maybe?

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find? No challenges this week.

Raves and rants? 3 more months until I reach my 1 year goal!

Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO? Yes. I've done it at doctors' offices, the hospital & Au Bon Pain.

  • @SV917 - Wow! Congrats on closing in on that one year goal!  You are inspiring me to push for my original goal of 6 months.  It is called cradle...I could't remember the name either :)

@quinncat - In the beginning, I had to pump for one of my twins too; she is still a very slow eater, but is now able to breastfeed.  You could try expressing or pumping a little to help with powerful let down.  On a bad day (when I don't nurse as much as I would like) I have to do this so I don't spray all over my girls.  Congratulations on surviving the 3 week growth spurt - that was the toughest for me, by far.

@AnotherDreamer - cluster feeding is hard work, hang in there mama!

@AshB62 - Getting so close to that one year goal!  That inspires me.

    Still going good!

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? Twin boys are 8 months old today! Usually go 3-4 hours between nursing sessions. They can go longer though sometimes.

EBF, EP, supplementing? EBF with 2-3 meals of solids a day

What is your go to BFing position? Usually we solo during the day so cradle I think (across the belly laying on one arm). Right before bed we tandem and they are in the football hold on the Tandem pillow.

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? K has 6 teeth and bites me to let me know he's done! Ouch! I tell him no and he just thinks he's so funny! I guess one challenge for me would be that whenever we skip a feeding (I'm trying to get them to go longer at night because they are still waking up to eat) I get so engorged and feel awful the next day. Worst headache, shaky, weak, sore! Probably the beginnings of mastitis, but it usually goes away after a day or so and then I feel fine. Any suggestions on how to avoid this? I know waking up to pump is an option, but I need more sleep!

Raves and rants? I'm just glad I'm still able to make enough milk for both of my babies! No rants I guess.

Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO? I don't really ever nurse in public. I'm a pretty shy/modest person and I've always been too weird about it. I don't mind if anyone else wants to nurse in public! And I don't mind in front of people I know with a cover or in the church mothers lounge with a cover. I have nursed in the car but I usually try to feed them before I leave the house and plan ahead so I don't have to nurse at the store or mall or wherever. Plus now that they are so easily distracted, they won't even let me wear a cover!

Anything else you want to share? Breast feeding can be hard but I'm so glad I've stuck with it and we are 4 months away from our 1 yr goal!

  • How's breastfeeding going this week?
Eh, ok. Still getting over a very painful milk blister that caused a blocked duct and some biting.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings?
    They're almost 8 months

    EBF, EP, supplementing? EBF
Ebf but also eating solids twice a day

What is your go to BFing position?
    Double football

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?
Biting!! I stop the session when it happens but I wouldn't say it's solved. He's still doing it

    Raves and rants?
I really wish they would sleep better. I feel like I'll never sleep all night again. Also, I'm really happy with the fact that they still ebf. Feeling proud of that.

Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO?
I have a few places but never with anyone really around. Tomorrow I'll be flying with them to go see family though so in about to do it a bunch as it will be a 6 hour day of travel.

Anything else you want to share?
Just want to say, I'm glad that so many MoMs are bfing. People act like its crazy that I do it but it seems like a lot of work to bottle feed too, everything is hard and crazy with twins.

    How's breastfeeding going this week?
    Good except the biting!

How old is LO ? How long between feedings?
My girls just turned 1 on Saturday and they still nurse about every 2 hrs...round the clock

    EBF, EP, supplementing?
    BFing and 3 meals/day

What is your go to BFing position?
I usually tandem feed, so they sit facing each other on my lap.

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find?
Biting - a firm "no biting" and unlatching and then re offering so we don't end on a sour note

    Raves and rants?
    Nada

Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO?
    All the time

Anything else you want to share?
I love nursing my sweet girls!

  • How's breastfeeding going this week? No complaints here

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? 20 mos.  We only nurse morning and night now unless someone is sick or gets hurt

EBF, EP, supplementing? EBF plus solids and water.  I have tried cows milk but neither of my girls like it.  We never supplemented with formula

What is your go to BFing position? They sit up on my lap

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? One of my daughters refuses to say Please before nursing and we had a stand off for 45 mins over it

Raves and rants? I can't stand when they want to nurse that the same time.  They nurse so quickly I would rather they take turns

Have you tried nursing in public yet, where have you fed LO? Over the last year and a half I have nurse just about everywhere you can imagine.  We rarely feed during the day anymore so it is a rare thing to NIP

Anything else you want to share? Don't give up.  I had an oversupply in the beginning and then a huge supply drop at 10 mos that I took Domperidone for and yet was able to keep going.  I also donated over 1000 oz of milk in my girls first year to another set of twins.
