Long Time since I posted - freaking out!

Hi Ladies - I have been reading posts almost every day, but I have to admit, I'm usually on my iPad, in bed, which means I fall asleep before I get a chance to post anything!  Oh, the tiredness, but I'm following everyone!  I'm having a little freak out tonight and hoping that you all will put up with me and maybe put my mind at ease.

My husband was making dinner and stuffing raw chicken with cheese and pesto.  I came in and took a piece of cheese and dragged it through some pesto that was on a spoon that I found out before I swallowed was being used to stuff the raw chicken.  I spit it out immediately and ran upstairs and rinsed my mouth out about ten times with listerine.  There's nothing more I can do, and I suppose only time will tell if if I'm going to get salmonella.  I'm hoping that since I didn't swallow (although I likely swallowed a tiny bit) and I washed and gargled with listerine that my risk is low.  Ugh. Where's the rewind button??  My anxiety level has been high over little things, so...I am just venting, I guess.  I'll be waiting with baited breath the next couple of days hoping I didn't put myself and the baby at risk.  Thanks for listening and I will do my best to be more interactive.

  • Deep breaths! I think your odds of getting salmonella are probably pretty small, and even if you did get mild food poisoning (which I doubt you will), I don't think it would hurt the baby unless you got severely dehydrated. But I am not in the medical field. What's done is done!

  • You're probably just fine, but I totally understand the freak out. The listerene was a great idea. :)

  • I am so sorry that you are having this freak out. I have no advice but wanted to send you some support.

You'll probably be fine. I've done things like that before (like when my husband left pork marinade in a pan and decided not to cook it for sauce but didn't tell me), but not while pregnant. Yet. It's unsettling, but there's not much you can do besides wait it out.

  • I would try not to worry too much! Like pp said the odds are in your favor there. Especially since you didn't ingest it. Deep breaths! You don't want to make yourself sick freaking out ;-)

  • You all are the best, THANK YOU!!  Sometimes I feel like I'm on the train to crazy-town these days because I worry over really little things.  I once fed my kids raw chicken nuggets when they were really little - every buyt he Bell and Evans chicken nuggets?  they aren't cooked - you have to cook them long enough to cook through but I didn't realize it until my daughter had eaten an entire one that was raw in the middle.  I felt AWFUL and was so concerned, but she was fine.  So, hopefully if she can live through that, I won't get sick!  My resolution for the day is to be better about posting here and return the love!

  • I have to say, the chicken DH made was awesome! Onward, right? Just a couple of months to go! Does anyone remember what it feels like to NOT be pregnant anymore? ;)

    Yes good!!

Haha but I can definitely wait until October for that feeling again :)
  • Hopefully the other posts have made you feel better, but the chicken would have to have salmonella in order for it to make you sick. Not all chicken has salmonella, but cooking it does kill it, so that's why they say not to eat raw chicken. Hope that helps!

  • The amount of chicken that is actually infected with salmonella is small. The odds that the chicken you had that wasn't even ingested is infected is so so small! I would be worried too but I would remind myself of the odds to help calm my nerves.

  • Oh, I'm so sorry you're stressing about this! It's exactly the type of thing I would totally freak out about, so I understand. Deep breaths and you will probably be just fine!

  • At 6 weeks preg I was in a fender bender and ob said to go to ER just in case. Triage nurse took my temp with NO PROBE COVER by mistake. Amidst a room of vomiting, coughing, feverish people. I spat everywhere when I realized it and would have done anything for listerine at that moment.

  • Worrying too much is probably more unhealthy than the bite you took. FX that you'll be just fine.
