Trying to Get Pregnant

How long should I wait before seeing doc?

Hi there ladies- I have been quietly lurking for a while as I broke my PC but luckily have access to the functional internets again Short history: PCOS diag at 14 and on BC until 29. Several fun cyst episodes while finding BC strong enough including having one burst while working the ER of a hospital. Stopped BC due to severe migraines that landed me in the hospital. 9 months ago tried metformin to control PCOS symptoms with disastrous outcome- turns out it really pissed off my IBS and I was lucky to have TA in my classroom so could make a run for it. Stopped using protection Nov 13, started charting/timing March 13 and no hint of a positive yet. This week I had an ultrasound do to a pain in my side (possible cyst) and turns out one of my ovaries is completely covered in scar tissue. I am expecting to restart my cycle any day now and plan on using OPKs for the next couple of months to check if I am actually ovulating.... Most of what I read says "healthy couples up to a year" but I am not so healthy so would it be unreasonable to schedule a specialist appt when I return from my summer travels or should I wait until post Christmas when we have given it a valid try for a year? *I am living in the UK so as long as my GP ok's it the treatment is free- however it can take weeks/months to get an appt with a specialist

I'm certainly not an expert in PCOS or medical practices in the U.K., but if I were in your shoes I'd probably ask my GP for a referral to a specialist. Edit spelling is hard

  • this is what I was thinking but my DH is not very helpful to bounce ideas off of. His only response was "so if you only have one good ovary does that mean you only ovulate every other month?" I just had to smile and say I would talk to my Aunts when at home....

It can't hurt to ask for a referral to one.

    My Ovulation Chart
  • I would bring it up. If you are on the 5th cycle of no ovulation and it will take a few months for the appt then I would get the ball rolling now...

    TTC #1: July 2014
    Me: 31  DH: 29
DX (me): Inborn error of metabolism - protein restriction, metabolic formula & weekly blood tests
DNA Results (7/1): DH is NOT a carrier for my genetic disorder!
7/3: Metabolic clinic gave the green light to TTC - holy crap!
  • Just wanted to say thanks and give an update- Had to pop into the GP this AM for what I call the "trifecta" (steriods for asthma, anibiotics for chest infeciton and pill for gross yeast that is inevitable) Brought up the fertility and PCOS issue and doc is more than willing to help when I return from traveling- so my job is to temp/OPK while I travel, schedule 21D progestertone when I get back to confirm and drag DH in just to check what cards he is dealing out.... Based on those outcomes we will decide the next steps Its not an instant fix but its a plan with steps towards figuring this out.... I can deal with that for now :)
  • Glad you have a plan moving forward.  Good luck!

I will try to sort my chart/siggy out when DH comes home with his computer... (mine has bit the dust after 6 years so I am on my ipad which honestly I dont know how to use)

I have had periods on semi-regular cycles from 27-31 days apart.... however my temps are all over the place. Unfortunately I have been dealing with a particularly bad episode over the last few months with my Fibro and the hayfever season in the UK has been nuts so my sleep has been erratic. I have been temping within an hour of the same time every morning before I even take my morning wee. This is however usually the 2nd wake up at the sun rises at 4:30am and all the birds in the garden are jerks.

I am flying home tomorrow to visit my parents in the states and just ordered a new BBT and Wondfo's off amazon. Hopefully with my new meds sorted, vacation from the stress of teaching and spending time with family I can get some good rest and start to see some patterns.

Once again thanks for all the support!
  • @cavewmninbrit I don't have any words of wisdom but just wanted to say I'm sorry you're going through all this, and good luck (and I noticed we're the same age and in the same country, so thought I'd say hi  :) )
