Placenta previa

Has anyone been diagnosed with this? I'm 28+2 and was diagnosed with complete previa at my 28 week ultrasound. I go back at 34 weeks and if it hasn't moved I'll need a c section which they schedule for 36-37 weeks. This is my third baby and I've always had natural so I'm freaking out about a possible c section.

Re: Placenta previa

  • I had placenta previa with baby #2, but mine resolved by 34 weeks. FX yours does too!

  • I have a marginal previa (my placenta is just bordering my cervix).  I'm currently living in Ukraine and doctors here have me on bedrest after a minor spotting episode and would do a c-section at 37-38wks, but I'm travelling back to the US next week and will see what my doctor there recommends. From the research I've done it sounds like what your doc is recommending is pretty standard.

I had a great natural delivery with DD and am also less than thrilled about the prospect of a c-section, but if its what's safest for me and baby, so be it.

FXed we all see some movement soon!

  • I had it at 12 weeks and 20 weeks, and go back at 32 weeks to see if it's moved. I've been on pelvic rest as a result since 20 weeks. Ideally I don't want a csection but I also had a really difficult 28 hour labor with my first, so part of me thinks a planned csection wouldn't be the worst.

  • I got diagnosed with complete previa at 20 weeks and it has now moved to marginal. I had a small spotting episode on Thursday that landed me in the hospital. They told me the really important thing with previa is to avoid bleeding the first time because if you bleed a second time that can be hard to stop and result in a very early emergency c-section.

Lessons I learned from the last 7 weeks dealing with this...even if your doctor hasn't put you on the follow restrictions I would followed them. I wish I had. Pelvic rest, no exercise that causes you to bounce (running is what started this bleeding episode for me) and avoid lots of bending and stretching.  Previa is just something they watch until you bleed and then all hell breaks looses.

  • I agree with @MissMandyD - if you are this far along  you probably want to make sure that you are on pelvic rest and avoid high intensity exercise such as running and even weight lifting. I would also ask the doctor about sex. You are far along enough that you could have a c-section; however, it could also resolve itself. FX for you!

  • I agree completely with @missMandyD. My bleed was sparked by lots of bending/moving.  I was following the "no heavy lifting" ban pretty well, but in the course of packing for a move was up and down a lot and the most intense night was the night of the spotting.  I think had I not pushed it, i wouldn't have bled and saved myself a lot of headache and worry!.

  • Thanks for all of the imput ladies... This is my 3rd pregnancy and it's been a rough one.... I have gallbladder issues as well which keep me in extreme pain all day and now this previa sigh.... Good luck to all of you as well
  • I was diagnosed with complete previa at 16 weeks and have been on pelvic rest since, with no bleeds. My 20 week u/s showed it hadn't moved and I'm going in at 32 weeks to check it out, and same as you, if it hasn't moved c/s will be scheduled at 36 weeks.

It has been mentally difficult for me, just hoping that I don't bleed. And also, I'm one of those non-stop people and I've had to really force myself to take it easy, stop my workouts, no sex, asking for help, etc.

FX for any of us dealing with it that it moves in time!
