TL;DR Version: Sadie Lynn was born on July 18th (38 weeks, 5 days) at 1:12 am, weighing a healthy 6lb, 7oz after a long induction and short delivery.
On Wednesday, (7/16), I had my usual OB appointment...it also happened to be my birthday! Because of GD and coagulation issues, I have had weekly ultrasounds and NST, and the U/S was a growth scan on a biweekly basis. My OB had been concerned over decreasing AFI, so we were on the lookout for other signs that the placenta wasn't doing it's thing anymore. At this appointment, the U/S indicated that our little one had shown no growth in two weeks. My doctor said it was "time to bail", and to head to the hospital at 5 that evening to start induction. Happy birthday to me!!!
DH and I arrived at 5, were in an L&D room by 6, and the Cervadil in at 7pm. I was 1cm and thick, baby at station -2. So...not really a good candidate for induction, but my doctor was determined. I "early labored" for 12 hours, and by then I was.....1 cm and thick.
Enter Pitocin. At 8am on 7/17, they started it, and my contractions definitely ramped up intensity wise. Because I was still basically closed, pain intervention wasn't recommended at that point, but I also didn't really need it...it was uncomfortable, but I could breathe through it okay. The doctor's plan was to increase the pitocin every half hour to speed things up, break my water after about 5 hours, and epidural sometime after that. My nurse, on the other hand, had some other plans apparently. She is a traveling nurse from Texas, has some very interesting opinions on homeopathic medicine, and has had 13 kids, all med-free.

Apparently, she believed I should do the same. After my water was broken at 1 pm or so, the contractions became VERY real VERY fast, and I asked about pain management options. She reminded me that an epidural could slow labor if I wasn't at 4cm (or "active" labor), but didn't fill me in on any other options. As the contractions got worse and worse, I kept asking for pain management, and she kept asking if I really wanted the epidural...to which I would reply "it doesn't
have to be the epidural, but I need something". And she, as it turns out would then...do nothing, tell no one. Finally, my DH took the call button, called the desk, and insisted that someone come discuss pain medicine, and when she asked if I "really wanted the epidural"
he replied "YES." My knight in shining armor.

And she...said she needed to find the doppler machine. STILL did not call the doctor. Thankfully, shift change happened, and my amazing nurse from the day before came in, took one look at me, and paged my doctor. He came in, took one look at me, and called the anesthesiologist. At 5pm, I finally had an epidural.
Then I just labored along until they checked me again at 9 pm, and I was 4cm and 60% effaced, or in what my doctor called "real labor". Pfft. He and the nurses said I would likely dilate another centimeter per hour, and then push for 2-3, so I could expect/hope to deliver by 5 or 6 in the morning on Friday, 7/18.

My nurse checked me at midnight, and lo and behold, I was complete. AND she could feel the head!! She explained that I would labor along for about 45 minutes or so, and then I would push with hers and DH's help until I was crowning, at which point she would call the doctor to complete the delivery. She said I could still expect a couple of hours of pushing, but that things were progressing nicely. I labored my 45 minutes, and then she coached DH on how to hold my leg, and count so that I could get three good pushes per contraction. We did a practice run, and then she asked me to push for one 10-count. DH got to 8, and she said "STOP! I need to call the doctor!" Apparently, I was already crowning...

The doctor came in and was set up in about 15 minutes, and on the next contraction, he asked me to give three good pushes. I did, and, well...out came Sadie Lynn! She had an 8 and a 9 on her APGARs, and was more-robust-than-expected 6lb 7oz. I had one stitch, but it wasn't even a first degree tear, and nursed within fifteen minutes of her awesome arrival. She's amazing, I love DH even more than I thought I possibly could, and even the dog is incredible with her. I feel like this:
Thanks for reading (if you got this far...) and I am sending happy mom vibes to all of you still waiting for outside squishes that you have amazing, healthy, happy deliveries

You have all helped me along this process more than you know.

Great story and I love the puppy with Sadie. Congrats, she's beautiful!
I'm glad you spoke up about the nurse. I HATE nurses like that. When I had DD1, there was a nurse on the floor who wanted me to "keep trying" for the induction. She "hated" csections. Too bad my body refused to progress and i was over it. (She wasn't even my nurse!! I guess she tried getting in my docs face over it!)
