Trying to Get Pregnant

TTC after d&c

Hey all!
So I unfortunately had a miscarriage at 7 1/2 weeks, with a d&c on July 10. I am SO ANXIOUS to start trying again! It feels like I can't recover until I get pregnant again (hopefully with a viable, healthy pregnancy). My doc says there is only a minimal benefit to waiting to TTC until I get another period, and that the research on it is somewhat inconclusive. Anyone experienced this or have and insight?
As of right now I have to wait anyways because my hcg levels are still high, but as soon as they are low enough I want to know if it is safe to go for it!
Thanks ladies! Hope none of you have to experience this, but unfortunately I know it is somewhat common :/

  • I would do whatever your doctor tells you to. Mine told me to wait two cycles. Some say one. They just want you to have the best chance at a healthy pregnancy so you don't have to go through that hell again. I know the waiting is hard. I feel the same way. :(

  • I used to work in clinics that managed early pregnancy lost and we always told patients their beta draws are the most important indicator of their reproductive health. That being said, I'm not a doctor and I've never experienced and d and c, but I would be tempted to wait a cycle or two.

  • My doctors have always suggested waiting until at least the first post loss period before TTC again.

I'm sorry for your loss. I had a D&C in April. My doctor said basically the same thing as your doctor but said he'd prefer me to wait for one full cycle just to be safe. I waited 2 cycles and now on the 3rd cycle we're TTC. If I were you I would probably wait at least one cycle just to give my body a break but it's completely up to you.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. My OB told me to wait 1 cycle after a D&C before trying again. My RE told me I didn't need to. I usually ovulated within 2 -3 weeks of my D&C's so my betas dropped rather quickly. I'd follow your Dr's orders because every situation could be different.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • I would wait at least one cycle, not only would it make dating a possible pregnancy a bit easier, but you need to remember your body (and heart) has been through a lot...no harm in letting it heal a bit.

I understand feeling that another PG will help you feel better, but becoming PG after a loss is it's own kind of scary.

Personally, I was not prepared for the emotions I felt when I was PG after our D&C (we waited a full cycle and got PG on the second cycle trying). Sadly that PG ended in a loss too...it was tough.

There is some comfort in trying again, trying is just different after you've had a loss. I know many ladies on TTCAL who've benched themselves long after their Dr gave the go ahead and those who are ready to try again ASAP. It's a pretty personal choice only you can make.

  • My doc said the only reason to wait was to help date the next pregnancy. She said if my lining were too thin that a baby would simply not implant. That a thin lining would not cause a miscarriage. My hpt continued to be positive 2-3 weeks after the d and c. When they went negative, my temps showed that I ovulated, then I had a 10 day LP. Next cycle I was back to normal. Sadly, we did not get pregnant again for about 20 months and we needed a clomid + iui because of low sperm count. When trying for our second, DH was living healthier and we got pregnant naturally on out third try. Good luck!
    My TTC History:
    2009: missed miscarriage #1 at 9 weeks (trisomy 16)
    2010: Infertility
2011: Diagnosis and treatment (low sperm count, anastrozole for DH, clomid for me + IUI)
    2012: Baby #1
    2014: Baby #2
October 2015: missed miscarriage #2 at 11 weeks (trisomy 22)
    March 2016 BFP#5, due November 2016.

So sorry for your loss. First and formost I would go check out the loss boards and ttal. After my loss 6yrs ago i found those boards extremely useful and supportive with all the emotions I was going through.

That being said I was told to wait 1 cycle, which I was glad I did because my first post d&c af was spotting for 3 days. There would have been no way my lining would have been thick enough to support a new pregnancy. My first cycle was also longer than normal and my temps the first 2 cycles were all over the place.

Good luck and i hope you get your sticky bfp very soon
