What's one thing you wish you had known about temping before you started?

    Yup, what @Joy2611 said.

  • Make sure you temp at the same time everyday (before you get out of bed), if your oral temps are all over the place, you may need to temp vaginally, and you shouldn't switch temping methods in the middle of a cycle.

Other than that, just plug them into FF and let it work its magic. GL!

  • I wish I had known that there are many variations of temp shifts. You can look at fertility friend galleries. After two months I saw there could be slow rises, fallback rises etc. so to not assume I've O'd until after more than just 3 temps. I had a cycle where I got crosshairs only to have them taken away and our timing wasn't as good.

    1) Vaginal temping seems to work better for me than oral

    2) The time I temp seems to be more important than how much sleep I got
  • 1. You are looking for patterns, don't analyze every singe temp. Watch for the patterns!
    2. For me it does not matter the time, just that I got 3 consistant hours of sleep prior. I drove myself crazy the first couple of months and ruined way to many nights of sleep.
    3. Let FF do its job. Sometimes it is drunk but 90% of the time it is spot on!
The biggest thing-4. Don't stop temping after O. So many people do this and then if their cycle gets weird have no idea what is going on. Just keep temping as sometimes O dates change with more temps.

  • When I started, I wish that I would have known that trying to analyze shifts is futile. The job of FF is to identify O. It won't give you any information pre-O, and it usually doesn't indicate that you're pregnant until around 14 DPO. Furiously watching the patterns is pretty useless.

  • I agree with @cateyes55413‌ - temp the whole cycle. Don't start a week in and then stop after O. The more data FF has, the better, and the more able you will be to see patterns.

  • I wish I had known how accurate it was...I was shocked last cycle. I had been practicing "constant vigilance" waiting for AF the first month post BCP. ..If I'd known AF would show the day my temp dropped my life would have been a lot easier. Unless I go back on the pill, I will temp until menopause. It has changed my life.
