Pregnant lady in the liquor store - everybody freak out!

Ok, so not everybody freaked out, but...

I stopped at a wine shop after my OB appointment today (where the baby looked great, tyvm). I was wandering the aisles, reading labels, and I could feel a woman giving me the side-eye. I ignored her. She finally came up to me and said, snidely, "Can I ask you a question?" Yeah, go ahead. "Do people give you dirty looks for being pregnant in a liquor store?" (In my head: Oh, you mean other than YOU?) 

What I said: "Ha! No. I haven't been in many liquor stores while pregnant, so I can't say that they have. My baby shower is tomorrow, so I am here buying a gift for the hostess." 

I am looking forward to my first glass of wine after baby boy arrives, but I am not going out to the parking lot to down this bottle this afternoon lady.

    Ha! I got some funny looks while just holding liquor the other day in target. Yep, sometimes mamas host parties and not everyone there is knocked up! Don't worry, people, the alcohol doesn't magically flow from the closed bottle in my hand straight to baby's brain :)

    Eta: and hooray for LO doing well! Enjoy yourself tomorrow!

    For the record, about a week before my son was born, I went to a wine store to pick out my "post-partum wine."  I bought two bottles of better wine than we normally drink and stashed them in the fridge so they'd be chilled when I was ready.  We have had one so far and it was DELICIOUS.

    It never occurred to me that people assumed the only reason to buy alcohol was for yourself. Wow. People around here must think I'm a serious lush, since I generally buy alcohol in large amounts when I buy it. (Hubby and friends generally take care of the bottle of wine with dinner shopping. I do the party shopping.)

    This is too funny! I got the same looks when I was buying alcohol for our gender reveal. We had a lot of people over & only one other person was KU. lol people kill me!

    We live in a "dry" area of town and I work in an area I can buy liquor so I often (before and after we got pregnant) go to the store to buy DHs hooch... I sometimes get weird looks now that the belly has mad an appearance. Obviously ALL of the alcohol that the other people buy in the store is for them and them alone.... Come on people seriously?

    my favorite story along these lines is when I was shopping for my wedding. The venue let us buy all the alcohol, beer and wine and bring it in. So I went to costco and loaded up one day. Like 5 cases of wine and champaign, I got the MOST dirty looks from people. But the time I made it to the front of the store I had started making comments to people along the lines of just me normal weekend stash... Another weekend in the tank for me!! People... :-/

    @Ashris13 - Other people must not ever host parties or special events. If I see someone with a cart full like that, I assume it's for a party.

    Yes, I understand what you are talking about. I got the dirty look when I bought my husband a pack of Guinness last time at the Beer Store. Also I was at a party with my co-workers and I asked for a 0,0 beer at the restaurant and a LOT of people sitting around were looking at me like "WTF".... I kind of felt like I had to stand up at gets everyone attention to make the announcement that the beer was actually alcohol free.... Gosh...

    Oh brother.

    You should order sprite in wine/champagne glasses for the rest of your pregnancy just to mess with people.
