Low lying placenta

Hi all,

Just had my monthly visit and found out that my sequential screening revealed a low lying placenta. My doctor told me that as pregnancy progresses this may correct itself. Just wondering if anyone has had this with a previous pregnancy and what you found to happen? Also, we never discussed sex... Since it is Sunday and she is not in the office, I was wondering how many of you were informed to avoid it? She didn't mention it at all, but she did say that if I had bleeding and went to the ER to make sure that they did not use a speculum to open cervix. I do plan to call tomorrow but wanted to thank you for the help!!

    I had a complete placenta previa, which means is was completely covering my cervix. There are several degrees of placenta previa. I read a lot about it here. https://placentaprevia.wordpress.com/
    I found out at 20 weeks but was told I had until 24 weeks until pelvic rest. I had an ultrasound at 32 weeks and it had moved. From everything I have read it is very likely yours will move. GL

    I was told at 12 week scan that I have a low lying placenta but was told not to worry and it might correct itself by week 20 which is when my next scan is. Don't worry in any case, above lady's example is very reassuring

    This happened to one of my best friends. She wasn't told to avoid sex, she just went on with life as usual. After a while it corrected itself and she was able to deliver normally.

    I had a low lying placenta this time but it had corrected it's self by my a/s ultrasound. I wasn't told to avoid sex or take any additional precautions unless I experienced any bleeding, thankfully I did not. There is still time for it to move up as your uterus grows like PP had mentioned :)

    Placenta Previa is a very common diagnosis before 20wks. In most cases the placenta will move up as your uterus gets bigger. As mentioned above there are different types of previa. The most dangerous and less likely to move is complete previa. (you would have been told if your placenta completely blocked your cervix) If it happens that your placenta doesn't move up out of the way that doesn't automatically spell c-sect either. There is a certain amount of cm that the placenta needs to be away from the cervix and you could still have a vaginal birth. I was told the same thing by the u/s tech and not given any details the matter. So I googled endlessly like an idiot until my visit with my midwife then was explained everything. In the end it moved and all went well. I wouldn't worry at all. The fact you were not put on restrictions indication your dr is not worried about it and its likely you have nothing to worry about.

    My placenta previa resolved its self by week 32. I went on to have a normal vaginal delivery at 39 weeks! 

    BFP1- 2/21/2013- L was born 10/25/2013!
    BFP2- 4/18/2014- F was born 12/29/2014!

    I just had an US on Friday, I'm 18 weeks. I was told I had partial placenta previa but I was on  pelvic rest rest. She did specifically mention no sex as well. Also that it was very likely to fix itself. I have a follow up in 4 weeks.

    I was told at my anatomy scan (19w) that I have low-lying placenta. I was placed on pelvic bed rest until it moves up. My ultrasound to check on it is scheduled for 28 weeks. It has been a loooooong wait on pelvic rest!

    I had a low lying pg with my ds. I was told about it at my anatomy scan at 20 wks. I went back in at 28 wks to make sure it had moved, it had. Like 90% move or something. I did go on to have a vaginal birth. I wasn't told no sex/pelvic rest.

    It's hard not to worry but try to stay positive. Hopefully it will all work it's self out.
    Diagnosed MFI- low sperm count  
    DS-Born 7/27/11 After 2 years of IF we have our little man
    TTC#2 January 2013
    11 Medicated cycles gave us
    B/G Twins born 10/8/14 @ 32 weeks

    Thank you all for the replies. I called and she said I didn't need pelvic rest. Continue as normal unless bleeding occurs. Haven't had any yet. Sou ds as though this problem will likely correct itself! Thanks again :)
