We got engaged in Hawaii, on the beach at sunset. We went to the beach to take pictures and DH said "he'd been lying to me and that he bought me a ring". The lying comment was because he'd been saying he wasn't planning to propose on our vacation. The ring comment was an inside joke because we used to say "I bought you an engagement ring" and then would give each other a ring pop, or a twist tie or something.
So I turned to face him to joke with him and he was down on one knee holding my engagement ring and asked me too marry him. It was a very 'us' proposal, from the joke to the location (vacation/traveling is impotent to us and Hawaii is one of our favorite places).
Dh proposed at the beach on my birthday. He didn't plan for it to be on my birthday it just worked out that way. When we were getting ready to go to the beach he was going to shave and I told him not to worry about it, it was just the beach! Then he went to put on a nice button up shirt and I was so confused and again told him not to because we were going to the beach! We finally got there and were taking some pictures. He said he wanted one of us looking at the water and him holding me from behind. He only had one arm around me and was fiddling around with the other one taking forever. I turned around to ask him what he was doing (he was trying to get the ring out of his pocket) he got it out just in time so when I turned around he got on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was completely shocked!
Picture from him proposing, sorry it's dark, my inlaws took it and they aren't very tech savvy
We got engaged on a ride in Disney World. We had jokingly discussed how I would want to be proposed to there and DH actually did one of the places I had said. To this day we still argue over my "first choice" so he owes me a proposal down on one knee in front of Cinderella's castle when we take also next summer
H proposed on Easter morning. We had just moved in together and I was being a brat and complaining that I wasn't getting any Easter gifts (at 25, my mom still hid Easter eggs for us that had money or lottery tickets in them - yes, spoiled brat). As I was getting ready to head out to visit with our families, I noticed he seemed nervous; he kept pacing behind me, checking to see if I was ready. Finally, once I had finished getting dressed, he handed me a small basket and told me he had set up an Easter egg hunt for me and that I had to find the eggs he had hidden around the apartment. I knew immediately what was happening, but played along... and the last egg had my ring in it. It was actually very not like him - he's not a super sentimental guy and I expected that our engagement would occur in a bar or something! But I loved it and love that I have such a sweet story to tell.
We knew we were going to be together, even though there hadn't been a proposal yet, so we got a house together. The morning we closed on the house, we were standing in our brand new living room and he gave me a hug. I told him to let me go so I could start cleaning before we moved in. He wouldn't let go and I started to get all bent out of shape...and then he pulled the ring out of his pocket and said, "I just wanted to ask if you'd be my wife." Cue a yes and tears and lots of kisses. . This year was our fourth HouseEngageIversary
Last Christmas we went to Portland, OR to meet up with my family. When we were opening gifts, I opened a gift from my SO that was one of those Ben Bridge bears. But there wasn't a ring inside, and instead there was a USB drive. He had a computer ready and on the USB drive was a video he made about us that was very funny and sweet. At the end of the video, there was a clip of him asking me to marry him in ASL (which he doesn't know at all, but I do). Then he asked me again in person and I was crying of course.
Our engagement story is lame. H says he had a better plan but chickened out. We went to dinner and a movie then he dropped me off at my house. When he was leaving he told me he forgot to discuss something. Then he asked.
DH and I were in San Antonio, on the riverwalk at the mall. We had discussed engagement and actually went to pick out our rings together, but I told him I still wanted a proposal. He said he knew and had a plan. We went outside and were wandering around and went up on a bridge that crossed over the river, right near where the little ferries turn around. He got down on one knee right in front of everyone, I immediately said yes, cue kisses and a crap ton of random strangers cheering and applauding. but to this day I tell him he should have waited another day til I was dressed better and looking better. I looked like crap lmao
I also knew the proposal was coming. We were on vacation in Saint Augustine, FL and I knew it would happen at some point as for the last month he was asking me what style of ring I liked. We ate at a really good Italian restaurant and he told me to not get another goblet of wine, which made me a smidge sad. Seriously, the glasses were huge. We took a walk down to the pier as the sun was setting and talked on a park bench, then he asked to go stand on the dock where the lights were dancing on the river behind us. He got down on one knee and pulled the ring out of his pocket. I was crying and telling him to shut up. I didn't believe him initially because it was April Fool's Day, which he didn't realize, and I thought it was a cruel joke. It wasn't (clearly), and I said yes.
Tried to edit the picture out and make it smaller. It won't let me on either account. Sorry
We'd picked out a ring together the week before so I knew a proposal was coming. He asked me on our fourth anniversary during a hike. At the top of the mountain he had a camera set up to take several pictures of us and he captured the whole moment. I would've liked to not be all sweaty and tired, but oh well.
He asked me at Carlesbad Caverns. The whole time we were touring the caverns he was like "I wonder if there's any diamonds down here?" "Maybe we'll find a diamond in the caves." When we got to the great room of the cavern we sat down on a bench and took in the sights. DH kept looking behind him and was saying something like "there's a lot of people down here." Suddenly he grabbed my hand, put it over his heart and said "feel how fast my heart is beating." We made it out of the cavern and no proposal. I was disappointed because I thought the whole time that he'd propose. We got in the car and drove for a bit before DH pulled over near a hiking trail and asked if I'd walk with him. We walked for a bit and then stopped so he could tie his shoe aka get on his knee and pull out the ring.
DH and I had talked about getting engaged and had even looked at rings together, but I told him to make a final decision on the ring and to suprise me with when. He kept me in suspense for almost two months. For our one year dating anniversary we had planned to go book shopping about an hour away at our favorite used bookstores. The day before we went I lost my patience and begged him to give me an idea of when he would propose but ales made him promise me not to propose on our one year anniversary because I wanter to enjoy the day and not constantly be waiting for a proposal. He laughed at me and said he wasn't going to that day but that he would within a month. Well he proposed the next day. We were waking through a cute dowtown mall and DH stopped me and handed me a book wrapped in brown paper. Inside the book he had cut out a hole for the ring box and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him as I opened the book. It was perfect and so me!
Ps: DH proposed in front of a fountain and he says there were homeless people taking coins out of the fountain as he proposed. I remember nothing but DH and the ring!
I was a real jack ass before we got engaged because my best friend got engaged to his best friend (we introduced them) before we got engaged. My grandma had let DH know that if he wanted our family ring all he had to do was ask. So after my friend got engaged I called my grandma to see if he had asked her about the ring and she said no. I was devastated and cried and yelled at DH. Well it turns out he had talked to her about it months before and it was being reset and was in the mail to him when our friends got engaged. So he endured a week of hell and I felt like a real jack ass when he did purpose because he had it planned for months.
He put cat food in the ring box because when you shake the a food container my cat comes running and he had tied the ring on her collar. Well instead of running to us she ran to her food bowl downstairs, it was super funny. So my whole family knew this was happening so the week I threw a pity party was funny for them to listen to. I still feel like a jerk but it all turned out perfect!
DH proposed on Christmas morning. We had just bought a house in November so we'd agreed to do small gifts for Christmas. We had been shopping at the mall earlier in the month and I'd pointed out a snow globe that I liked. DH is really good about remembering what I say I like and surprising me with it later. So when I saw a snow globe sized box under the tree, I was sure that's what I was getting. I unwrapped the box and inside was a smaller wooden box. I opened the lid and there was an engagement ring inside. I was totally shocked! I looked up and DH was on the floor on one knee making a speech. I immediately started sobbing hysterically and didn't hear anything he said! He still makes fun of me for getting so emotional, but that was the only genuine surprise I've ever experienced in my life and I was so happy that he was asking me to marry him.
DH had picked me up from work one night and while we were supposed to go out to dinner afterwards. He told me he had accidentally left his wallet at home and that we'd have to go back to get it. Whenever we got home, I walked in first and saw a beautiful bouquet of flowers on the table along with some "Mr & Mrs" champagne glasses, rose pedals, and a note. I opened the note and it said "turn around". So when I looked behind me, he was on one knee with a single red rose, and inside the rose was my ring. Then he asked if I would marry him and of course I said yes!
DH proposed at 2 am on valentines day when he got home from work. He walked into the bathroom when I was blowing my nose, I asked him if I had any boogers, to which he replied no, laughed and handed me a dozen pink roses. I had never gotten valentines day flowers so I was pretty excited. So excited in fact that as I was arranging them in a vase I didn't see him standing on the opposite side of the kitchen counter with ring in hand. It took him calling my name about 4 times and holding the ring right in front of me before I saw it. Technically he never really said " Will You Marry Me" but I assume it was implied . We were married 18 months later, and will celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary next month. And I promise that is the only proposal story that includes the word booger. Lol
My DH put the ring in a bag of pickle chips since that was what I was craving ALL the time. Then we went and had sex in a school parking lot and got caught by the police.... Oh wait, that wasn't me.
DH and I had been together for almost 9 years and knew we were going to get married. We had started planning our wedding, but he hadn't proposed. On our 9 year anniversary, I came home from work and DH was home already. He had gotten me beautiful flowers. I was smelling the flowers and made a joke about the smelled good enough to eat. He then said, "Do you want to eat this?" and when I turned he had out the ring and asked. It was such a strange way of asking, but showed how nervous he was. Afterwards, I noticed he had proposed in front of the cats' litter box so I told him he had to try again (joking, of course). Well, he decided he would ask again and did it in the bathroom. Twice. He isn't very aware of his surroundings. This week we will have been married 4 years.
Our engagement was a long time coming. I had picked out my ring more than two years before the proposal. (And he had purchased it at that time, which I was never 100% sure about until after the fact) We were on vacation with my family in the OBX and went for a walk on the beach after dinner. I knew it was coming, but when you wait so long the element of surprise kind of goes away :P We had been together 8 years at that point and got married less than a year later!
My story always sounds strange to other people, but it was adorable and awesome to me. It's long to explain properly, but basically, my husband came home from work early one day after "going to the doctor" at the hospital where he works because "he was sick". He had CT scans and a letter from a doctor with diagnosis of "spherical linkitis" and "hyperthermic pedontosis". I was so confused (and only slightly dense, I didn't really read the letter properly, otherwise I would have questioned those illnesses!). Then he said "the doctor told me that I'd die without you. So can we make sure that doesn't happen?", pulled the ring out of his pocket and got down on one knee
ETA - the funny part is we'd been together for seven years, had gone "ring shopping" the previous summer and just three days earlier, I had a total sobbing meltdown asking him if I was doing something wrong because he hadn't proposed yet. He later told me that if he didn't already have the plan set for a few days from then, he would have gotten the ring out of his car just because I was so upset!
