Pregnant after a Loss

6 weeks and no fetal pole....any reassurance stories please....and thank you

Hi ladies,   I am under the care of an RE and just recently found out I was pregnant......I went for my first ultrasound and it showed just gest. sac.......4 days later went and yolk sac was there......HSG  is rising more than adequately....I went this week and she is saying from my LMP she is figuring I am 6 weeks......But I keep trying to explain that I have a short LP and I usually ovulate on day 18 or so and have at themost a 7 day luteal phase.

The problem is she did not see a fetal pole at this 6 week apppointment but I know that I am about 5 weeks 3 or 4 days gestational.......She said she should have seen fetal pole or fluttering of heartbeat.  I am going back Monday for another ultrasound and she said that will determine in what direction the pregnancy is going,

Please if you can reassure me that it might just be too early.....I am not having an easy time waiting and am a nervous wreck......Thanks if you have read this through and any input, stories or knowledge will be much appreciated.    Thank you all again.....

  • I don't have a reassuring story that relates to your situation, but I just wanted to say I'm wishing the best for you! Hopefully your dates are just off and you get better news at your next appointment. ((Hugs))

It might just be too early.

Assuming you chart since you know about your short LP, I would put more faith in your charting O date than the LMP assumption of CD14. At your stage in pregnancy, every day makes a huge difference. You are seeing growth and have good betas...it sounds like you just need to give it some time.

  • I want to echo PP. It sounds like you need more time to see what's going on. All your other indicators sound good, so hopefully you're just a wee bit earlier than your RE thinks. Fx for good news next week!

  • thanks ladies.....you are all so very nice.   all of your comments have made me feel better that there may be a chance.     Hugs to all.
  • I have a similar situation to yours. I went to the emergency room for cramping and the doctor ran a lab for my hcg levels. My hcg levels came back to be 180.. They sent me in for an ultrasound and said they save nothing. They said they'll call me back in a few days to run labs again because my hcg levels are low.. Based off my lmp I should be 5 weeks. I'm not sure when I got pregnant or ovulated but my dates should be exact. I'm worried.

If you were charting and know for sure that you ovulated on cd18 and are only really 5w and 3 or 4 days, than I don't think you have any reason to worry. I had an u/s at 5w4d with DD and we only saw a sac measuring about 5w. A lot can happen in just a day or two that early on. I don't think you're out of the game by any means. At 6w you should see a fatal pole, but it can still be too early to see a heartbeat. It usually starts sometime between 6-7 weeks.

Doctors love to go by your LMP. When I got pregnant this time I had monitoring u/s throughout my cycle so my doctor knew exactly what day I ovulated (cd22)... And he still went by my LMP!! It was only after I measured a week "behind" at my first u/s that my doctor changed my EDD to go by my O day.

Hang in there! I hope you have a great u/s on Monday!

  • Hugs to you. I know that waiting and not knowing is really hard but I also agree to give it some time to come back and see how things are progressing. If you are in fact in week 5 or even early on in week 6 it could still just be too early. A later 6 week or 7 week ultrasound should show if things have progressed. Thinking positive thoughts for you.
  • PPs gave great advice so I just want to offer ((hugs)) & T&Ps for a great U/S next week. Keep us updated.

    ALL ARE WELCOME
  • I had an ultrasound at 5w3d and all that was seen was a yolk sac. At 6w6d there was a baby with a 140 heartbeat. Based on my lmp my dates are a week behind as I ovulated on day 21. If you know when you ovulated then your ultrasound is fine for 5w3d. You should see more at your next one! T&Ps for you!

In my experience doctors cling to that LMP date, even when you know that it is not accurate. (That is until you have a baby to measure for a dating ultrasound). I know I ovulated on CD 33, but doctor didn't seem to care until I measured 8 weeks instead of 10 at my dating ultrasound.

I would go by your date and not worry.
