Stopped eating most finger foods

My toddler use to be great with finger foods, but about two months ago she has stopped being interested in anything but Gerber puffs and some purees. She use to eat food off my plate without a problem, now she is really resistant to it. I am guessing it is a combination of teething and budding independence, but I am not sure what to do. I want to make sure she eats enough healthy food, and I would really like her to continue eating what we have for dinner rather than purees. Any ideas how to help her eat more again?

  • I would simply stop offering the purees and puffs and give her what you want/expect her to eat. Since day one of eating (we did modified BLW), DS has eaten basically what we eat at meals. The only time he gets something "he prefers" is if I know it is something he won't like (though we usually still try it again) or if we are not all eating a meal together (this mostly happens at lunch when I eat at a different time than I feed him based on his nap schedule).

For me, I didn't want to get stuck in a habit of making two meals or him knowing that if he didn't like what we served, we'd fix him something different. (I went through that with my much younger brothers and want to do everything I can to avoid that kind of behavior in my household.)

If you feel like teething is an issue, I would just make "softer" meals for the whole family and/or mush up a little whatever food it is. When DS was little, we mushed up peas and carrots instead of doing purees. Fish can be flaky and soft.
