Toys with strings

LO got 5 toys yesterday that are cute wooden animals on a string that he can drag around. They're adorable, but the strings are making me a little nervous. Am I being a crazy FTM?

Re: Toys with strings

  • I doubt they would make the strings long enough for him to choke himself with. (That is what you are concerned about, right?)

  • Thanks ladies! I won't worry about it :)

  • DD has a couple at SO's parents. The strings are pretty long but she mostly knows to just pull the toy with it. Or she tries to eat it.

I think the only thing I've ever worried about her putting around her neck is my purse. She loves to try and wear it like I do (across body).

  • My dh cut one off of a toy. He thought it was too long and hazardous. I do get a little worried about some of them but trying to not be paranoid.

Most of them are too short to cause strangulation. However, once, before LO could crawl, he somehow managed to get the string on his xylophone stuck on the back of his neck while I was in the kitchen making him a bottle. It obviously didn't strangle him or anything because it was too short to go around his neck, but it left a big red mark like rope burn (but not THAT bad.) I think now that the babies are mobile that wouldn't happen, though.
