Baby sleep clothes

Ladies...
I've been struggling. My dd doesn't like swaddling or sleeper sacks so we stick with a onsie, footless pjs or footed pjs. But due to humidity or varying night time temperatures I'm using the a/c. Here are my issues that I'd love your opinions on!

1. What temp do I put the a/c on
2. What do you dress them in

Edit to add: How do you tell if they're hot/cold? I've read different techniques...

Re: Baby sleep clothes

  • 1. 75* at night
    2. Footed Pajamas

  • We don't have AC. so I just keep DS in a onesie or footless nightgown. We keep windows open and fans on overnight. If its chilly overnight I wrap a light muslin blanket around him. He usually kicks it off. As for temp, my house right now is 83, and DS is sleeping soundly. I wish it were cooler, but it is what it is.

    Mine is set to 71

A short sleeve onesie, sometimes footed bottoms with that.

We have our AC at 78, fan going, and usually use footed pjs and a muslin blanket.

If she's hot, she gets sweaty. If she feels cold, I swaddle her.

  • AC 73 short sleeve onsie and footed pjs
  • We keep our ac at 77, but our room gets pretty chilly. When LO is cold, she literally feels cold to the touch. I check out her temperature by feeling the back of her neck.

  • My LO feels cold when she's cold and hot when she's hot. She sleeps in a sleep sack and either a long sleeve onesie or footie pj's depending on the temp. We keep our AC around 73-75 but our upstairs runs warm if it's hot outside.

  • AC set to 74 (though his room is warmer) with his ceiling fan on. He sleeps in footed pjs and swaddled in a muslin blanket.

  • Our AC is set to 77, and she wears footed PJ, and had a small fan blowing in her room (not at the crib)

  • 75 when it's on, but the past few nights we've just opened the windows. She sleeps in footed PJs and depending on the night she may or may not be swaddled with the SwaddleMe.

Those of you that set your a/c to 75 or more, how the hell do you sleep like that?? You don't sweat or get hot?

I would keep it at 78 or 79 if dh let me. I never had AC growing up, and I get cold really easily. Our bedrooms are small, so when it kicks on you can feel it blowing and it feels really cold

  • I must underdress DS. It's probably 73-75 in our room and most nights he sleeps in a nightgown that's open at the bottom. He used to sleep in a Halo sleep/swaddle sack but when I noticed him sweating so much I thought his diaper leaked, we ditched it. His heat rash and baby acne cleared up then, too. So, yeah I worry that he gets cold but he seems to be fine.
  • AC is set to 73 and we have a fan on in the room for noise (he is still sleeping in pnp in our room). He goes to bed in long sleeved footed pjs and is swaddled arms out in a+a blanket. He sleeps well and feels comfortably warm when I check on him.

  • We don't have AC, but our house stays pretty nice and he seems comfy in a onesie and his swaddleme (and he has a fan in his room). If it is too hot, we put him in the PNP in the living room because there's a window unit in there, but we've only done it like twice. I just feel his face/neck to see if he's warm/cold.

  • When the a/c is on its set to 76. We have a ceiling fan that runs all night. She sleeps in a footed sleeper and a halo sleep sack for the swaddle. Although shes sleeping better without the swaddle so we might ditch the sleep sack for just a sleeper.

I think you adapt.  When I lived in Canada, our AC was always at 72-74. Now, I live in Phoenix, AZ and i'll be honest, it gets hot, but i can't afford to keep it any cooler than 78. We actually had it at 80 before having a baby. It does get a little warm and sweaty at times. I'm already paying $500ish/month to run the damn AC, so I deal with being warm!

AC set on 72, LO in footed PJs (my absolute favorite to buy), and a blanket over his bottom half.  He likes the weight.

I've never had AC in any house I've lived in. You get used to it. But yeah, I get hot at night, especially since our bedroom is upstairs. It cools off fast overnight so once I get to sleep, it feels better fast.

So much good info, I appreciate all the answers. I kept reading 68-70 but it seemed sooo cold I could never go below 72. Glad to see some warmer temps and thoughts!
  • Usually 72-74 for the AC and we have a ceiling fan. We put her in footie pajamas.
  • We have the A/C set at 72, but the vent in LO's room is closed so he doesn't get overly chilly. He always sleeps in a sleep-n-play, either with footies or with socks. I prefer the footies but at 14 weeks and 16 lbs, LO is already too big for most of his 9 month clothing and finding larger sizes with footies is hard.

I judge how hot/cold he is by touching his neck, although if his feet or hands feel pretty chilly I'll add something like a sleepsack.
