Rash on chin

edited July 2014 in February 2014 Moms
My LO has been a terrible spitter-upper since 4 weeks old. Now that we're adding excessive drooling to it, she's developed a red rash on her chin. Tips? I keep her face as dry as I can when she is spitting up. Is something like Aquaphor or Vaseline safe that close to her mouth? Not that it would stay put long with us having to wipe her chin every 5 minutes, which I'm sure isn't helping the problem.

Re: Rash on chin

  • The first thing I thought of was maybe it is from being wiped so much? Like when you have a runny nose and the constant wiping irritates it. But the constant wetness will do it too. I'm not sure what you could put on it, but I know someone here will have an idea.

Sorry you're dealing with this! It sounds frustrating. :(

  • My best bet would be coconut oil since its safe for consumption anyway and is said to help with diaper rashes.

  • We use aquaphor but if it gets really bad we use Bag Balm. It acts as a kind of barrier from the moisture. I'm pretty sure it's safe for consumption.
  • Thanks. I'll put Aquaphor on before bed tonight.
  • Ditto @CD7211‌ 's suggestion of coconut oil. I wouldn't use Vaseline or anything so close to the mouth and airways.
  • I just noticed a red rash on LO's chin yesterday. I think it's from the combo of drooling like crazy and her pacifier rubbing on her chin. it doesn't seem to bother her but it looks like it hurts!

  • Aquaphor overnight = looks better first thing in the morning, but now after a few hours and bottles its red again.
