3rd Trimester

Rib Pain

I will start off by saying that I am not the norm... I'm a FTM and I don't enjoy being pregnant.  I"m a good preggo lady who eats what she is suppose to, exercises, drinks enough water and all that. I haven't had any problems in my pregnancy untill now.  Right under my bra line I have severe pain and tenderness and I have been told that it is from my ribs spreading, but it is really killing me... This is the worst part of being preggers so far and I can't wait until he drops and this pain will go away.  Anyone else having this issue?

Re: Rib Pain

  • Yup I'm going through it too. Finally went to a chiropractor after 6 weeks and she told me not only can the ribs spread, but twist as well. She's popped them into place twice (doesn't hurt at all to pop them back) but they keep twisting. So far no advice from her as to keeping them in place and all I've found to feel better is lay down on my side with the body pillow to keep me straight. Good luck, hope you start to feel better :)

  • I am 39 weeks and this is exactly what has been killing me the most. It is the most excruciating pain ever. I have not found anything that makes it better.

  • I am 32 weeks and have been dealing with this for about a month. I went to physical therapy for it since I did not know what was causing it. It is very uncomfortable.
  • Oh yeah! Right there with you. I hate being pregnant. I wish I could say otherwise...My rib pain began around wk 28 and lasted until wk 32. It may have to do with the size of the kid- as to when you begin to feel it. Mine's going to be around 10-10.5lbs. I'm 35wks tomorrow and he's 7lbs. It does get better. He dropped down a bit and now just tries to cram his sweet little feet under my ribs ( saw it on the sono!). If you recline as far back as possible or lay on your left side, it helps a whole lot. I found that sitting straight up is what makes it the worst. I also got some relief by pulling my right arm over my head while reclining. Hang in there!
  • I'm 36 weeks and have this pain too. Hope everyone's pain goes away soon (including mine!) :)
  • Hang in there, I had a work related back injury and between my ligaments spreading naturally and the injury itself, I am at the chiro's weekly to be put back together because my ribs are sliding and twisting out of place so much. If you haven't seen a chiropractor yet in your pregnancy, maybe you should give it a go.  I never believed in them before, and now I swear by mine.

    P.S. I hate being pregnant too. <3
