Trying to Get Pregnant

Psychic DH strikes again!

I messaged DH asking him to bring home some wine for dinner - chianti or cab for the meatloaf, and something sweeter to drink later.  Thinking "ask for ALL THE WINE.  Do it!"  I was a good girl though and stayed to the point.

DH came home with 6 bottles of wine.  Including our favorite sweet red, a rose, moscato, and a type we've never tried before.  He got a discount with the bag.  I went from vaguely grumpy (CD 1) to dancing in my seat.

Does your DH ever turn pleasantly psychic on you?  OR... what's your favorite wine?

  • My H does stuff like that, but only because he doesn't know what he's supposed to buy. Like.."I know you wanted the Harry Potter book but I didn't know which one so here's all of them." As for wine, my favorite is moscato.

H tried to surprise me with some wine that tastes like cheesecake. It was GODAWFUL!

  • My h randomly surprises me with Peruvian chicken. I loves it. Yummmmmmmm
    Due March 2016 :)

  • Malbec is my jam. Also, Sangiovese. I love interesting reds.

Did you know that if you sign up for their little member program at World Market you get 10% off each bottle of wine when you buy 6 bottles or more. It's genius.

H is great about random surprises. Like he bought me a pack of those aloe infused pedicure socks just because he was in the store and saw them.

  • I'm not a big drinker. BUT I got some new cookbooks!
  • I have an unpsychic DH, he never knows what I'm thinking.  Even saying "hey, I'm heading to the bedroom right now, wink wink nudge nudge" isn't clear enough for him.

That being said, I'm a fan of cabernet franc.  I had it a couple years back and got hooked, but it's hard to find.

  • My husband can read my mind. He guessed exactly how much my wedding dress was (trust me when i say he has no clue what the cost is of a dress nor how much it costs to order one extra long), what I got him for his birthday, etc. However, he cannot tell east from west and struggles with, well, street smarts. The brain can only do so much right? Better he be a genius at work since that pays the bills.

My usual sarcastic response to what kind of wine I like is 'the kind with alcohol in it" but I am a self-professed wino. Chianti all the way! It's my favorite, so approachable and friendly. God I miss wine...so so sooo much... ~X(

  • @buttmonkey34 - Ewwwww!  Well, I say eww.  I've never had boxed wine.  It's hard for me to imagine a pour-down-the-drain wine, though.  When you're expecting a nice chard, though...

@Stikierlten - I'm in a similar position, though Sangue di Giuda (a sweet Italian red) is my favorite.  By a narrow margin.  Followed by ALL THE WINE (actually, cheap low-ABV strawberry flavored wine is my favorite I'm-angry booze.)

Moscato is one of my favorite enjoy-by-itself wines.

Everyone else - thanks for ideas the next time we buy wine, which should be a bit.  Never considered Red Zin.  Also need to revisit Malbec, apparently (the first one we tried tasted like dirt.  Literally.)  And try Sangiovese.  And Peruvian chicken.  ;)

Should revisit the cookbooks - we fell into a rut with a baby around.  Down to one or two new recipes a month (hit the right meatloaf texture tonight - now to master seasonings), after I managed a full year with no repeats.

I didn't even drink wine at all before I met DH - I tried a heavy Chianti in college, and thought all wines were like that (I love cooking with Chianti now).  He's from wine country, though.  Trying new wines (and beer) is a hobby we enjoy together.  I also love cooking with it (I enjoy cooking as a hobby, DH enjoys eating as a hobby - it's a good match.)

Me too!  Cupcake and Naked Grape are my 2 fav brands
  • @nicpug I just tried Cupcake this weekend and I really liked it. Definitely something I would try again!
  • @PenguinMG I love voignier! Not a well known one, but so so good!

And @Ladymouse I hope it doesn't become a hobby to make it. That shit takes up a LOT of space. But at least I will have plenty of wine for me in a couple years. I just have to look at all the bottles in the meantime.

@Stikieriten, there is a vineyard outside of Austin that has an excellent Viognier. My MIL took me and my SIL out there for a girls weekend a few years ago and it's been my go to ever since.
Any idea what the maker is? I've only had it come from Oregon. I will see if I can find it up in Minnesota.

  • We drink Duplin wines mostly :) They are muscadine wines and are AMAZING! If you have not tried them, i highly suggest it. Dh loves the Scuppernong Blush (sweet) and I am a fan of the Carlos (semi-dry white) and the Mothervine. The mothervine is a league in its own...imagine eating fresh Muscadine grapes off the vine...but with alcohol lol

I still can't call Pinot Noir anything other than Peenomore. Because that's what gramma always calls it. Jaja. So thanks for the giggle all if you that like PEENOMORE! ;)

But a huge fan of Malbec, Carmenere, or a good French Grenache blend. Fav brand is Castillero del Diablo from Chile.

If you haven't tried it, the Little Red Box Cab Sav is actually a pretty solid cheap but good choice.

DP is is amazing at knowing the days that I need a glass/bottle.... STAT!
  • Kung Fu Girl Riesling is my new favorite wine. A happy medium between sweet and dry.

I'm a reisling girl myself. I just bought a bottle from a local winery yesterday; I'm excited to try it!

And yes, DH regularly reads my mind. It's to the point now where if he says something and I give him a look he says "I was in your brain again, wasn't I?"

  • I love all the wine. :)

My fave whites are generally Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier (Virginia makes some delicious Viognier!)

For reds, I drink a lot of Zinfandel and Malbec. I am a huge fan of California red blends- they can have the perfect balance and be quite affordable. There is one called "Troublemaker" with a fun label that is very tasty.

Love this thread! So many delicious wine suggestions!

  • I didn't see it suggested, sorry if it was and I missed it!

Chocolat Rouge is the BEST!!!  I like the Dark - haven't tried the one that looks like chocolate milk but a bad experience with one like it has prevented that.  It really is like someone dipped chocolate into the wine and forgot about it.  The best of both worlds!

  • Haha, that's a great surprise! Time to drink up!

My mister pulled through in a big way this weekend. We just went through our first medicated/assisted cycle and I had B2B IUIs on Thursday and Friday. He booked us a weekend getaway at my favorite resort hotel in Vegas and I am laying by the pool right now. I needed this trip so much, the IF stuff has just gotten so "real" these last few weeks. God, I love this man.

Hope you all are having great weekends!
