I have GD so I get growth scans every 3-4 weeks to make sure baby girl isn't too big. It turns out she's actually too small. Our last appointment she was in the the 54th percentile and now she is in the 9th at 2 lbs. I now have to go in weekly for monitering and my doctor told me to lay on my left side as much as possible. Has anyone had experience with an IUGR pregnancy in the past that they can share? This was really the last thing that I was expecting with a GD pregnancy.
Edited to add the doctor also said she just may not have had her growth spurt yet so I am hoping that is the case.
Re: Possible IUGR
DS was diagnosed IUGR. At our 20wk scan his femurs measured short (8th percentile), so they had us follow up at 24wks for a second scan. He still measured 7th-8th percentile, so they sent me to a specialist.
I saw the specialist 2x per week for the remainder of my pregnancy. At my first appt, they redid the scan using their super u/s machine, and they spent a fair bit of time monitoring cord flow and resistance. Thereafter, my appts were 1 weekly NST and 1 weekly u/s to check DS' health/size and monitor cord flow.
He remained small but growing steadily around 8th percentile for the remainder of my pregnancy. He was diagnosed unexplained IUGR because they couldn't find a reason why he was so small.
Since they didn't know why he wasn't growing properly, the specialist decided to induce me at 37 weeks to let him grow outside. He was born at 5lbs 1oz, and 100% healthy. He's now just over 2.5 and still a little guy. He's grown consistently along a 10th-15th percentile curve, and his pediatrician expects that he'll either be under 6' or that he'll do most of his growing during puberty.
ETA: Feel free to PM me anytime if you need support and encouragement. I was very afraid for DS during my last pregnancy, so I understand what you're going through and am happy to be of any help that I can.
T&Ps for you and a healthy LO!
