Possible IUGR

I have GD so I get growth scans every 3-4 weeks to make sure baby girl isn't too big. It turns out she's actually too small. Our last appointment she was in the the 54th percentile and now she is in the 9th at 2 lbs. I now have to go in weekly for monitering and my doctor told me to lay on my left side as much as possible. Has anyone had experience with an IUGR pregnancy in the past that they can share? This was really the last thing that I was expecting with a GD pregnancy.

Edited to add the doctor also said she just may not have had her growth spurt yet so I am hoping that is the case.

Re: Possible IUGR

  • I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I hope the doctor is right and she's just due for a spurt. Keep us posted on her growth! Also how far along are you, can't see I'm mobile.

  • Thanks for sharing @Emerald27‌! My doctor did say that if she showed any signs of stress they would induce me. It really helps to hear that someone else has gone through it and everything turned out ok.

  • My DD had IUGR but I also had pre-eclampsia. I was never told percentiles but at 31 weeks she weighed 4lbs 12 oz and when they took her at 36 weeks that was her birth weight. My placenta had rapidly aged well past 40 weeks and she wasn't getting any nutrition. She also had two knots in her cord that restricted her movement. Once she was out she has thrived! Never lost weight in the hospital and had a steady gain. She was on the charts in no time. Now she's a tall/slim 4 and a half year old. I'm starting to worry about this LO and plan to beg for an ultrasound soon to monitor weight.

T&Ps for you and a healthy LO!

  • I have no advice but wanted to send you big creepy internet hugs.  FX for a good growth spurt before your next scan!
  • FX for a growth spurt! One of my friends had to have a C-section because LO stopped growing. She was born a little over 5 lbs and a month and some change early but she is perfectly healthy.

  • Praying that your lo has a growth spurt before your next appointment. I am worried that our little man might have it. The doctor hasn't said IUGR but keeps telling us we won't have a sumo wrestler and that he is measuring around 12%. We go for another scan Monday and I hope he has put on lots of weight.

  • I had IUGR with DS. He was measuring "average" up until 32 weeks (he was around 4lb at this point). I didn't have another US until 39 weeks at which they measured him to be 5lb14oz. Not sure what happened in those 7 weeks, but they decided they were going to induce the next day as they figured he'd do better out than in. He made a surprise appearance that night and weighed 5lb 12oz. He's still small, but perfectly healthy and still growing along his curve!

This time, I'm now going to get regular ultrasounds from now until birth to monitor this baby's growth.
