Comfortable convertible

So the next purchase for LO will be a convertible car seat. I'm looking for something that will be very comfortable for her, a lot of car seats seem to be very hard and not much cushion. Due to commuting issues, she is in her car seat almost 2 hours a day so I want something comfy. What are your recommendations? What do you currently have (for those using convertibles)? I've looked up plenty of reviews but I prefer to ask my bmb moms who have first hand opinions.

Re: Comfortable convertible

  • I'm glad you posted this! We are looking into getting one in the next weeks.

  • Clek Foonf. I did get a killer deal on it. The safest car seat on the market but very expensive. We've done a ton of road trips in it. Babies are big enough for the Foonf when they are 14.5lbs and can sit up. We will be buying either a second Foonf or the new Flo when it is released next month.
  • We have two Britax Boulevards (G3) that have worked very well for kiddo for the past 3+ years and will be passed to Tessa later this year.
  • Thank you ladies! @RedDawnsRevenge‌ my sil has the foonf for my nephew and absolutely loves it! I'm just on the fence about spending quite that much on it. DH says he doesn't mind paying that for it but I'm still hesitant.

The chicco next fit is the one that draws my attention most. It looks like it is super soft as well as safe. I like the reclining options too.

They very nearly paid me to take it home. It was on sale, and I had a coupon, like I said I got a steal. Where I live 75% of drivers are unlicensed and or uninsured so we're not taking any chances on safety. I have a safety first that came out of my Fiat (only seat that would fit) and you can tell the difference, car seats shouldn't flex or bend. Plus the new law says they have to be in it for 8 years! So it's not a huge loss when you think of it that way.
  • We have the Combi Coccoro.  Well, we have two actually.  My 18 mo has been using hers since birth and we have a second one for DD2.  It's very cushy and seems to have the right width at the top for carseat sleeping.  No slumping over.

Ohh it says car seat or booster.  That makes more sense.  I still think it's a bit excessive though!

  • Our state law is also car seat or booster til age 8 but DS outgrew his convertible seat long before then - like when he was 4. Our convertible seat was a Britax. Very comfy, very safe.

  • The only thing about the britax seats is the new ones (g3 with the no retread harnesses) have a shorter shell than most seats so kids who are particularly tall or long in the torso can outgrow them read facing earlier than you may like (current recc is to rear face until at least two and then as close to four as possible). We had a marathon for my three year old and it wasn't a problem, but my nephew outgrew his right around two and they ended up buying a new seat for him to keep rf in.

The next fit is an awesome seat and so are the graco headwise/size4me and 4ever and those will last you basically as long as you want rear facing.

  • You can get good deals on the graco seats if you bide your time. I got my headwise for 113 a couple weeks ago with stacking sales and coupons. I've seen the next fit as low as 150.

  • We've tried probably half a dozen convertible seats (my DH kept finding flaws with them!) and my dd never complained or had any issues settling in the carseat. We've taken 14 hr road trips and she's never complained. And we dont buy expensive carseats. For what it's worth. :-)

I have the Diono Radian RXT for DS1 and I've been very pleased with it so far. We don't spend hours in the car but we do tend to be in it often and he has never acted uncomfortable. I was planning on getting another one for DS2 but I just looked into the Foonf and I may be sold on that...

I've been looking at car seats for a couple weeks now and I'm pretty much in love with the Evenflo Symphony DLX.
