GTKY: Concerts

Im all hyped since Jason Mraz tour tickets go on sale for my city tomorrow morning. Concerts are one of my top 5 favorite things of all time, BUT the only person I would always buy tickets for no matter what is Jason Mraz. My question to F14 is...

Favorite Concert?

One person, passed or living, you would love to see in concert?

Re: GTKY: Concerts

  • Dave Matthews. We saw him everytime he came around in hs so its kind of nostalgic.

I would have loved to see a GNR concert.
  • Loading the player...
  • Favorite concert would be Dave Matthews or Coldplay. Both were great shows!

I would have loved to be at the original Woodstock.

  • The best concert I've ever been to was Simon & Garfunkel when they did a reunion tour in 2003 or 2004.  I was probably half the age of most people there but it was awesome.  I've also seen DMB probably 30 times or so.

@carleys morissey has literally cancelled 4 Atlanta shows in the past couple of years.  DH is a huge fan but we stopped buying tickets because he kept canceling!
  • I want to go see Jason Mraz!!  I *LOVE* him!  I'm excited that I took today off work and he just happens to be on The Today Show!   He's absolutely the person I'd pick for who I want to see in concert.

My favorite concert in the past was Simon and Garfunkel :)  I had tickets to go see them a second time, but they had to cancel because old.  :(

  • Oh I love concerts!
The best was probably Taste of Chaos 2004, when I met H in the mosh pit.

GZA was also awesome love, same with Pixies.
And RUSH! That was an amazing concert.

Growing up I was big into the local music scene, so while they aren't big bands, I've had the most fun at some smaller shows.

Jason Mraz is going to be awesome, I'm excited for you!
  • Oh, and the most random show that I ended up having the BEST time at:

An old BF and I randomly got tix to a 3 band bill that were all Irish-influenced rock bands... Seven Nations, Young Dubliners and Great Big Sea. They were all AMAZING, and I've become a huge GBS fan, have seen them several times since.

  • I tell people it was LIVE/Rusted Root because I want to sound cool. But in reality it was Tim McGraw, because he's HOT.

  • I also never answered my own question and all you ladies gave me great ideas. Someone I would want to see is Billy Joel. I would pay any amount of money to see him.

Also I saw Jason Mraz's Love is a 4 letter word concert years ago and in Nashville (oops told you where I live, come stalk me) he does the Ryman, which is a pretty small venue. He also plays barefoot.

@RosiePeare Back in the day  Nashville used to have something called "Dancing in the District" big concerts all night on the cumberland, so you would bring blankets and they served beer and carnie food. I saw amazing bands there like Keb Mo, Blues Traveler, and Hootie and the Blowfish. They had all different kinds. They are trying to bring it back but didnt have a very good lineup this year.

  • @Junebugz1  :  I really want to know what places you've visited.  I've always wanted to make it to Graceland.  My only cool rock landmark is Abbey Road.

  • I think my favorite would have to be the Gwen Stefani concert at the TD Garden in Boston on Halloween 2004/2005, where the BEP opened for her.  It was such a fun night! (except for the psychoboy who tried to ruin my weekend by asking my bf what would happen if when he met her he liked her more than me... - lets just say "Nuh uh boy!")

Though for a smaller venue, I LOVED the KT Tunstall concert at the Orpheum.

  • @car seat  I saw BNL after Steven Page left.  I never saw them before so I can't compare it to that, but the show was great and lots of fun.  "Old Apartment" was weird without him though.
  • @Junebugz1 :  I am in total nerd heaven reading your list.  I've only got the 1 big one.  You have like 10 awesome sites!!!!

  • @Junebugz1‌ Cafe Wha is an awesome venue for live music. My family and try to make it there at least once a year for the house band. It was actually one of my mom and stepdad's first dates so it has become somewhat of a tradition. Definitely worth the trip into the city.
  • @Junebugz1 : SOOOOOOOOO stinking cute!!!!!!
    So totally hijacking thread.
We had one too, but LO only got to wear it 3 times before outgrowing it.  His cool uncle also got him a Village Green Preservation Society onsie.  Which I guess he better wear this weekend before it too becomes too small.

  • @kbauer1022 Ahhh I'm so jealous you've seen Foo Fighters! The only time they've come nearby any time recently we already had a vacation planned. I'm *dying* to see them.

ETA: I will add another concert high point was at a festival that STP (before Scott left :/ ) and Alice in chains were both playing, and Jerry played Sex Type Thing with STP. So cool!
    @carissalynp‌ & @kbauer1022‌
I would also love to see Foo Fighters!! We should do a F14 GT1 next time they tour.

@Katybriggs I saw a band at the Engine Room that were too drunk to preform.  The singer spent 20 minutes incoherently bitching about rich Austin yuppies.    I don't remember who they were, but they were opening for Electric Frankenstein and Poor Dumb Bastards. So I guess I should have said "Drunkest Band to give a good show".
I bet the Dropkicks were amazing in Boston, somehow I don't think Allentown really did them justice. although my shins were nicely bruised for weeks after the show.
I haven't thought about Dead Milkmen in years.  Totally forgot all about them.

ETA:  LO was almost named Shane.

About a month ago my GBF and I saw Cher. It was a spectacular show! Definitely top 3.
However, I think the best show I've ever seen was Super Diamond for my bachelorette party. Yes, I'm a nerd and I love Neil Diamond. But being with my favorite gals made that show special.

I would have loved to see Michael Jackson.

  • @TessyMessy‌ @carissalynp‌ I don't know why my quote won't work. Foo Fighters New album is out this fall and the tour starts in the spring! I am not a crazy stalker or anything. I would love to see them in NYC again but I hear they will be at Giants Stadium instead. I can't hate that being a Jersey Girl and all! :-)

@kbauer1022‌ I will be watching for tickets this time!! Met Life aka Giants stadium is about an hour from my house. :D

Oh wow! You probably know my area well then. I am from Wayne, NJ. I live way upstate NY now but I visit very often. Always a Jersey Girl at heart. :-)

I go to Wayne for work sometimes!
You can take the girl out of Jersey...

  • I basically live for rock concerts. That's what the biggest chunk of my entertainment budget gets spent on, and I'm a total front row junkie. Shinedown is my favorite band, I've seen them like... 16 times now I think? Front row most of the time. The best one though I think was last year when I went with my cousin, we did a Meet & Greet, and then were front row center in the pit for the show. Ahhhhmazing.

As far as who I'd see... My favorite band for the longest time was Day of Fire. They were small enough we got to hang out with the band after shows a lot. Josh Brown, their lead singer, also does tattoos and did my first one- nice color piece- for me. He ended up going back to his original band, Full Devil Jacket. They put out a new album, but I highly doubt they'll end up all the way in New England to tour. I haven't seen him in a long time, so I'd definitely get them up here!

Although, apparently Johnny Depp was on stage with Aerosmith at the concert in MA the other day. Man I shoulda gone to that!
My family was there, said it was an awesome show (Aerosmith always is) and people went wild for Johnny. Slash actually opened the show.

I have seen Kenny Chesney at least 10 times. He has always been my favorite concert. Next to that, I saw New Kids on the Block with Backstreet Boys and Naughty by Nature @Fenway park and that comes in a close second for the best concert of all time. NKOTB "got" what a big deal it was to play at Fenway and that local connection was priceless.

Seeing Garth Brooks live has been on my bucket list since forever. I used to have posters of him on my wall. He is the reason I love country music. I pray that he makes a New England stop on his upcoming tour. I would even forgo Kenny to see Garth. ;-)
