Cancer anyone?

Because life wasn't hectic enough in my house, karma decided to hit us with another curveball. My oldest son had surgery about a month ago to remove a cyst from his mouth. We got the results and it is a rare form of cancer, cancer of his saliva glands. We are meeting with an oncologist today. If you know me for realsies, nothing on my Facebook. He has asked we post and share nothing on there. It is his body and we are respecting his wishes as far as that goes. The cancer he has was at stage 1 so the "best" we could hope for. Treatment might just be removal of the growth, which was done, and scans every three months. It has a 94-100% survival rate for the stage, etc. I am scared, I am trying to hold it together for him. I didn't do,that great of a job since we found out. I spent all night Monday night going back and forth from sobbing to throwing up :/ I have cried most ofmTuesday. The other boys do not know what is going on only Mom is sad.

Hugs. Cancer is a word that is always devastating to hear - especially when it comes to our kids. I have no first hand experience, but I hope the Oncologist can help answer your questions and relieve some of your fears. Sending positive thoughts to you.

  • It is ok to be scared.  The "C" word is a scarey word!  So sorry you all have to go through this.

  • OMG, I am so sorry you are dealing with yet another exhausting diagnosis.

I was diagnosed with cancer 7.5 years ago.  It too was grade I (bone cancer) and only involved removal of the growth and scans every 3 months then yearly.

Grade 1 usually means it hasn't spread and as long as they were able to excise the cancerous cells then it needs no additional treatment.

I hope they got it all and your son will just need scans.  T&P for you guys!
To my boys:  I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew

  • I am so sorry. Thoughts and prayers for you and your son.
  • I am so sorry you are going through this. My daughter was diagnosed with leukemia this year, so I completely understand , and now too well--about everything. Luckily they caught it early.

    Good luck with everything.

    *hugs*
