Side sleeping

This has been the week of baby sleep issues for me. We stopped swaddling due to him escaping. Naps have gone to crap. Night sleep regressed a lot but it's getting better...

LO cannot roll from back to side yet or tummy to side. But today I watching him fall asleep on his side after nursing. Then all day today I put him down to nap on his side and he is instantly OUT!!!! I try to our his arms out straight in front of him so he doesn't roll to tummy. He looks like a flipped turtle when he rolls on his back during the nap and wakes up. He's 11 weeks. I know back sleeping is what is suggested for SIDS. Is it safe to let him keep sleeping like this at night when I'm not watching him? He sleeps so much better without his crazy arms everywhere. Sorry this is probably a super dumb question but I feel super dumb after all the lack of sleep this week!

Re: Side sleeping

  • For some reason LO sleeps on his back during the day but at night rolls into his side to sleep. His arms aren't wild he just rolls and stays. I try putting him back on his back and he rolls again. I have been leaving him because I can't hold him down lol. Interested to see what others say.

  • I let my LO sleep on his side at night. He just started doing it himself and kicking his legs forward so he's basically a little L. Never found him on his stomach at MOTN feeings. Hasn't really slept better though either.

He can't roll either and is almost 11 weeks.

  • I let mine sleep on her side if I am in the room with her for naps only. At night she is swaddled in a Miracle Blanket on her back. She has broken out only once but I think she's starting to outgrow it. I'm going to move her into Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit in the next week or so. That's strictly for back sleeping only. If she likes it I'll use it for naps and night time.
  • My dd loves being on her side. Same, put her on her back: thrashes everywhere, pick her up and put her on her side: out like a light. She also can't roll yet so she never moves from that position. I do worry a little about it but she sleeps so much better. Sometimes I'll move her to her back once she's asleep.
  • My DD rolls herself to her side by the morning. We start her on her back, legs swaddled only and by the morning she's usually on her side.
  • DS doesn't sleep well on his back. He screams even in the rock n play. We've been putting him on his side. He likes it and sleeps like a champ.
  • What do you use to lay them on their side? Sorry if that's a dumb question. Didn't know if you use a rolled up blanket or is it set them that way. She falls asleep on me like that too and thought maybe she'd sleep better.
